Keeping No-Copy HUD Items Active Through Outfit Changes?

I bought a very nice AO this morning, but unfortunately, it's no-copy, so it deactivates every time I change my outfit. :P

I IMed the author, to see if he's got a solution to the problem (or is willing to provide a copyable version of the AO), but he's not available right now, so I figured I'd post here while I wait.

Is there any way to keep a no-copy HUD item active through outfit changes, if the new outfit doesn't include a replacement item for the same slot?

Thanks for any info! I'm learning fast, but unfortunately, I'm still about 70% newb. :D

I keep a folder of no-copy AO and add it to outfit when I change outfits completely. So I drag an outfit on to me which replaces everything, then right-click on my 'Add-ons' folder and choose, 'add to outfit'.

another solution is to use one that can be copied.

Hmmm...

Not entirely sure what's going on....most AO's are worn in one of the HUD areas outside the avatar.....like bottom right or upper center.....you can change the place you attach your AO to a different area if it is attached to the body and your outfit replaces it.
But....I've got about 5-6 different AO huds and they all attach to the bottom right corner so I click on them to turn them on or off...and in some cases load a different set of poses or use an emoter for facial expressions.

Where does the HUD attach? If it's on your body....detach it....and in inventory, select it, and attach to HUD....and choose bottom right. This way changing will not interfere with the AO at all.

Try "add to outfit" instead of "replace outfit".

And welcome to the forums :)

It would be nice to have an "ALWAYS WEAR" folder for items you don't normally change: prim hair, skin, shape, etc. These should be able to be over-ridden, of course.

Actually, we kind of can. Just make an 'Outfit' with all the things you always wear. Say, Skin, Hair, Baldie, Eyes, Shape, AO, Lashes... Then make outfits (folders) of clothes you like to wear together (mix and match items). Then right click on the clothes folders you are wearing and unwear/detach - you'll be naked - then right-click the new clothes folder and 'Add to Outfit'.

I always do:

Inventory>Right-click on item or folder>Wear

Great idea. You take them out of the folder or just click on them and select deattached. :)

HUD items attached to the HUD itself as well as those attached to my body are replaced/removed when I replace an outfit.

Even if I *can* get a copyable version, though, I may just keep the one I have, after all; I like the idea of a secondary "Always Wear" folder. It would reduce the amount of duplication in my inventory. ;)

And in regard to the "Add to Outfit" rather than "Replace Outfit" option, that doesn't really work for me, since not all of my outfits have items in all the same slots, and I don't want things "hanging on" from one outfit to another that don't actually belong with the new one. :D

Thanks, all, for the fast responses!

1. HUDS *always* attach to a HUD attachment point, on your screen. That's what makes 'em a HUD. However, some HUDs control on-avatar items, like a HUD to control the color of your shoes.

2. You don't have to settle for the default HUD attachment point. If you have one HUD attached at bottom right, and a new one displaces it, back up. Detach the new one, replace the old one. Then find the new one in inventory, but instead of clicking "Wear", click "Attach HUD" and attach it to an empty HUD attachment point.

You can do that with a folder as well.

This is how I normally change clothes:
Open inventory and right click the folder with the clothes I want to wear and "Add to outfit"
Then, right click the folder with the clothes I originally had and "remove."

The longer you stay in SL the more no copy items you will aquire that you will want to wear with multiple outfits. How ever you chose to go, you will need to develop a system to handle this. And welcome to the wonderful world of inventory maintanance. You will see copious other threads around with people in the same situation. ;)

Like most, I also have a folder with all my almost never change parts. Skin, shape, eyes, hair, tats, and a pair of jeans thrown in just in case, AO, Mystitool HUDS. This is what I wear. This is what I wear 90% of the time (except for the jeans) and if I ever get wacked for whatever reason, I can wear this folder and be golden. I do this after playing a furry for example.

The jeans are there because you can get dumped from a sim and wind up in the strangest places at the worst possible times. click, click and I'm a dressed human again.

I do that sometimes too but, given the size of my inventory, it's usually easier to use the pie menu than to go hunt down the folder(s) with whatever I was wearing previously.

I have an "always wear"-folder too (with skin, huds, my current fav hair etc).

When i change clothes i select: "add to outfit" to put on a whole folder.

To check what i am wearing after (because of diff attechmentspots), i just type "worn" in the inventory search and take of everything that no longer is supposed to be there from the inventory. It only takes seconds.
