Sorry, more help needed!!
After being on SL for almost two months and making mistakes that I'm sure all newbies make, in my inventory I must have about 150 entries in either my objects or lost & found folders. These are a result of afraid to delete things and taking them back instead, items going off-world, removing my houses a few times, etc... My question is how do I know which ones are safe to delete that are multi-duplicates of the same item? Some objects have a single box, others are multi-stacked boxes (i know these are a combination of objects in one object) Would I have to go the the properties of every single item to see which was the original, or what???

Also, I placed another land selling question onto the back of my earlier thread, "Quick Question on Market Value" so I wouldn't have to start another thread, but now, I'm not sure if it will come to the attention of folks. Could someone go in and check the new question and post a reply?

Thanks

Clean it up now, my friend, before it gets worse!

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to see modify dates on items in inventory? Ah well. If there's a debug option for this, please someone let me know!

Generally speaking, you have to actually rez coalesced items (the stacked box icon) to see what they are. It might be best to do this in some very empty piece of sky above your land. That way you can use the object counts in the land menu to be sure that you have picked up or deleted everything after you rez them. The various highlight/show options can be useful during this.

Be particularly careful about permissions when deciding what to delete. Your original item may have more permissions than your subsequent copies. And, if you have nocopy items, be sure you are doing this some time when the grid is behaving well and your packet loss is zero.

I'd also suggest the use of the text box just under the menu line in the Inventory window.

First use the menu to Reset Filters and also Close Folders.

So, if you say had an object called 'ball', typing this in the text box means that Inventory only shows where all the objects that have 'ball' in their name are. You can then click on each to have a look at the properties, e.g. to see the 'Date Acquired'.

Probably talking about something else - but you can sort by date in inventory.

This is one of those things that you have to stay on top of or it will get completely out of hand. I constantly categorize things, delete duplicates, and make more and more folders. I'm new compared to some of the people on here, and I have more crap than I know what to do with, but I've been really careful about building a tree of folders that I can use to easily find what I need. Otherwise, just give up.

What you need now is a little quiet time. Rez a platform, shoot yourself up to 200m, and just sit there and sort through your stuff. It will take forever, but your only hope is to get on top of it now.
