BAN-BOOZLED Question

So I got bored and clicked on some buttons randomly, one of which was an Auction, which by surprise I won. No 39L/m Mainland that day when you can buy some similar for under 3...

So I go to check out my winnings to find out that I have been whitelisted by all neighbors in 4 directions. I think they were sitting there waiting to find out which name to plug in as LL set the land to me.

I was later informed that I made someone sad because I won the auction and not them and they got all the parcel owners surrounding me to ban my cartoon ass.. not even 5 minutes after auction close..lol

My question is.. is it not against the rules to block access on 4 sides to a parcel?

I named the Parcel BanTard Hill

if the parcels are owned by different people, then i don't think you can do anything about it.

maybe set it for sale for a greater price than you paid, and see what happens?

Even if different people have you blocked, it's against the rules (this was determined when adfarmers successfully ARed people for blocking access to their adfarm parcels from different sides.

One time in the early days of my SL existence. I had been on a land buying spree with plots in various places. And one of them I went to check on shortly after buying it had changed from a nice residential area to some kind of huge park with builds all around it. I was surrounded by all these builds and water where land used to be. And I could not walk off of my land as the surrounding land required you be a group member. So I IMed the new owner and to see what was going on. And he told me he was building some big awesome project. So I asked him due to being surrounded that he should add me to the group. At which point he told me I had to pay to be a member of the group. So I said "no way!". Then he sort of threatened to completely build up all around me. So I responded by saying that if he did that I would put a giant P**** on the land and leave it there for a year. I never would have actually done that but
he took the bluff and as a compromise he ended up buying the land from me for a few thousand above my purchase price and we ended up making friends.

I was with you up to that point. I can't imagine ever being friends with someone when things started the way they did.

It just seems like the guy started things out from a 'lets be hostile and exploitative' PoV, to which you responded with 'lets be a jerk back.' Moments like that are just hard to get past. :)

Obviously they had something in common. A perfect basis for a friendship.

Thanks for the responses

It is a total Shakedown - the dude ooozed with - why are you in my cartoon area, can't you see I own most of the sim, so its all mine all mine.. and not yours, attitude. The land is all related by group so it is effectively one entity. All his except for the few sections he cannot afford on his salary lol.

Truth is if I want a parcel next to mine that is up for auction, I will bid a little more than 500 over opening bid price.

So I agree, probably not the time to be friends....or trades a few sims away as was offered as a consolation. and... I am glad I got the land real cheap so its probably not worth the effort to fight over it. All my other land is much nicer than that, I just liked the color of the dirt and bought it so I can take some stone wall product pics..

The little griefer gal in a devil suit on my left shoulder is whispering ideas... but the guy with the halo on my right shoulder is telling me not to post them.

Quiet, little angel guy. I'm trying to think, here...

Now why is the griefer a girl and halo boy is a guy?

The devil has all kinds of interesting means of motivation, but the angel has to resort to logic. ;)

I reserve the right not to explain this too carefully...

...it's actually how I imagine it in RL too, except that there are names and faces associated that wouldn't make sense to anyone here. The little devil apparition is a doppelgänger of an ex girlfriend. Nuff said?

grin

Well sometimes people want/hope to buy up the smaller parcels around but that is no excuse to treat you badly because you won the land they wanted. That is just how it goes. Why weren't they at the auction too?

BTW how do these auctions work, I'd like to attend one just to see how it goes and if I can afford land this way.

You go to the auction website, (there is a link on the website) find land you want, and bid on it. OK perhaps I glossed over a few details, but that's it in a nutshell.

A couple notes--If you enable View>Land Owners, any purple land you see is headed for the auction que. Also, 4k is the dividing line for auctions that are paid in cash, versus auctions that get paid in Linden dollars.

It appears that they were at the same auction. Funny thing is, I did not dump on the bid as if I realllly needed the land so the final price was low.

It works exactly like ebay. The software that LL is using is actually ebay's. So your attendance is limited to a few clicks. You end up paying 10L more than the bidder below you's highest bids.

As far as affodability , people who constantly bid against each other drive up the price without reason so it is almost never a bargain. They start the auctions at a price that can be found in world, so that is also not really a bargain.

I feel sorry for the realtors that bid on these in bulk because they are too lazy to go shopping in world. Somebody bored with a button pushing fetish, might be putting an end to your profit margin for pure fun!

What an arsehole approach to asking for you to sell your land, hope you make a huge profit if you sell to them.

Given what your previous forum avatar was, you might be more careful with your wording there. :D

If you're not bothered about the tier I'd just put autoreturn on, banlines and leave it there empty... it'll annoy the hell out of them.
