CNN Lifestyles long (nearly 9 min) clip about musical artist Grace Buford (aka Cylindiran Rutabaga), and says she makes 10K/yr in SL. Its positive coverage, but the dancing is really embarrassing! http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/showbiz/2009/04/07/dcl.buford.second.life.cnn

I read and loved the article. Usually most articles about sl are negative and sex oriented. This one was very well written and I'm sure inspiring. For once, kudos to CNN!

i watched the video, imo cnn tried to get some perversion in there, but the artist gave clear answers. kudo's to the artist for her work and the positive impact *loved the big-ass afro in the audience aswell .

Its great coverage BUT it focuses on how much money the artist gets out of SL. So now we will get many more trying to 'cash-in' here. The reporter states the artist makes her $10,000 USD from CD sales - the artist never mentions the thousands of dollars she charges venue owners and the tips she receives at the events. I kind of belive that this income is quite substancial also.
I had hoped that the artist would admit that these venue owners that pay tier and staff salaries also support her career in SL. Which is the truth of the matter.
A few of us are working in a foundation that will move these artist fees from the venue owner and get advertisers to absorb them. This way the artist gets her fees and thevenue owner can afford to book many more artists.

It's always good to see some positive press. I hope this enriches the SL music community with more interest from musicians who might not have given SL a glance. From: Lias Leandros I had hoped that the artist would admit that these venue owners that pay tier and staff salaries also support her career in SL. Which is the truth of the matter. Yes, it's true, but you have to think of the audience. A mass-market article, which this is, can't reasonably go into that level of detail. The thing that is easy for us to forget is that people outside SL can only digest small bits of information about SL at a time. We are so immersed in the details of SL that it's easy to say "well, they should have explained how she could have played the LindeX to earn more than that." But Joe Blow CNN reader doesn't care about that level of detail. Not in this sort of article.
