Anywho. I have made this change suggestion for the current residents to review and consider and of course vote! Now from experience, I have watched these areas with interest and see them change. I feel it is time for another revamp.
The community of Second Life has grown to a very large scale. On the busiest days 60k+ concurrent users are logged in ( of course this isn't counting the bots and simultaneous avatars). For the people that know me, I roam these areas in my free time. Helping out from time to time while I see the active chatter great to see it may be confusing an intimidating to a newbie. Upon seeing more and more people joining in these areas I've come to the conclusion that there is a new need for these areas.
This need I believe would be appropriate that people need a Linden Supported community gathering place rather than just the Welcome Area being an area to help out but to converse and share ideas (in which case these areas already do). This new designation would give everyone a place to gather called "Towncenters" if they didn't wish to see clubs and.. other places... or perhaps a quiet break from it.
Each day I see more and more people gather in these areas which is a delight to see however on some days it can be rather busy with many conversations going on at once. In addition to changing the designation to these areas I also would suggest making the sitting areas and plazas much much bigger so people may not feel so crowded in.
Where will the newbies go, you might ask? Along with this suggestion, if it were up to me, I'd combine the help islands with the welcome areas to be spawned at rather than at the current ones. More mentors and helpers go there and they wouldn't have to wait long if they need help again while having the same amount if not more information available to them. With the current situation, the information at these places I feel isn't sufficient enough for them to be 'welcoming'
I'd like these new 'Towncenters' to be more open and inviting for the rest of the communities to gather and chatter as mentioned before, to be wide open.
What say you? I'm open to suggestions!
