is there a way to override the camperbot script and say in chat something like "Quit! Quit! Quit!" that will oust them from their log in, or disable their scripting, at minimum? oaky, if we all start walking around saying that all the time, that will be incredibly annoying, so i'm not looking to start a camperbot war, or a thread about why camping is good vs bad. just asking if there is a way to test if an avatar is a bot or real.

Only if such a way exists for you to do it to a regular avatar.
Which I strongly doubt.
And which would probably be an illegal hack.

well, "Quit! Quit! Quit!" worked for copybot, so why would it be a hack to disable any other form of script from your viewer?

”Quit! Quit! Quit” worked because it was specifically coded into the original copybot program (which is not a script in SL, but a separate program emulating the way a client communicates with the SL servers) as a recognized command. In other words, it is a deliberate choice to react to that command, not a by-product of how scripts or clients work. Rest assure that nobody will have coded that command into their bot-running programs at this stage. (Corollary: Can we *please* get rid of those ”Quit!”-crying objects. Nobody who wants to run a copybot now is stupid enough to have it react to that command).
There is nothing illegal in modifying the client and/or connect with alternate programs (which is what bots do), and indeed, without going into the ethics of bot-running, it is likely against ToS to deliberately attempt to kick other users offline, irrespective of what program they use to connect.

"!quit" hasn't worked since 3 days after copybot was released.
I wish the people who scam the public out of thousands of lindens would stop selling these devices.

From: 3Ring Binder is there a way to override the camperbot script and say in chat something like "Quit! Quit! Quit!" that will oust them from their log in, or disable their scripting, at minimum? Not really. At their simplest these are avatars logged in through the regular client and simply idling. The more dedicated ones use command-line clients that don't respond to much at all. Some of them even pay enough attention now to answer those "anti-AFK" dialog attempts. From: someone just asking if there is a way to test if an avatar is a bot or real. Strike up a conversation with the avatar. Machines can't really conduct Turing tests, they just can't.
