Even after four months in SL, I keep coming up with noob questions.

Last night, I tried on a belly button diamond, which turned out to be positioned inside my avatar.

How do I select it so I can reposition it, without scalpels and blood and icky stuff?

Go on the Nicole Richie diet.

Lose all body fat and trim down body thickness. It should show up.

I just usually cam into my body, Right-Click>Edit and move it.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

You can also detach it, and reattach it to some place like a hand where it will be visible, edit its relative location, and then move it back.

I made a new shape specifically for this problem. It has no belly, no body fat, and is skinny as a rail. May want to keep one on hand. Camming inside is tricky! Takes up too much time.

Actually, the initial position was just barely inside me...I could see it blinging. I tried Detaching it and editing its position from there, but when I reattached it, it dove so deep inside that no diet's going to recover this sucker.

I'll try the "cam inside myself" trick...as long as it doesn't get too icky.

I've never had any problem camming...just slide past your body and rotate in.

If you focus your camera on the ground beneath your feet, you can usually rotate your view inside your body without much problem.

never had much problem camming inside my body either

also turning on wireframes will help you see where it is at, still have to cam past the body to get to it but at least you will know where to cam to..

ctrl shirt R in the client menu to wire frame stuff

Just what I wanted to recommend. My partner had the same problem recently. Her belly diamond ended up inside her stomach.

Attaching the thing to a hand, shifting it via edit and re-attaching at the original location fixed the problem.

Get the debug menu to show at the top of your screen if you don't see it there already, by using Ctrl-Alt-Shift-D (or whatever they changed it to this week).

Then you can press Ctrl-Alt-Shift-4 to turn on and off avatar rendering. That should make it pretty easy to see your hollowness and the contraband you are smuggling in your body cavity.

Good luck.

I would suggest detatching it, then opening up the edit window, then re-attetch the item with the edit window open, so you are automatically able to edit it.

...Just my suggestion.

Thank you, Darkpoet. I knew there was a way to do this, but couldn't remember the sequence. You get a gold star!

I feel the warm fuzzies you only get when you help someone...
You are welcome, this is the process I use when I am working on the animations in my AO, or when I attatch something and it goes 'poof' I just stick it back in my pocket, open the edit window, and pull it back out and put it where I want it to go. :)

I don';t think this works with attachments
I am not in world to confirm but I think when you try this, when it attaches it doesn't auto edit

If you have the edit window open when you go to attatch an item, it does go automatically into the edit mode. I have had to use this method a few times with some of my attatchments.

Not icky but you may feel a little hollow!!
