I am new to this game (almost 3 weeks now) and have been having difficulty logging in. I keep getting the error, "Login Failed. The system is logging you out right now. Your account will not be available till...." I subitted a ticked the first day it happened but have yet to hear a response so I am seeking help. If anyone knows how to fix this, could you please reply? Thank you.

if you crash, it takes some time for the system to reset your avatar. you can wait until the designated time, or do what i do and jsut keep trying until it overrides the time restraint.

it is common, and most likely something that has to do with your computer, and not a SL issue.

What I would do is remove SL from your puter. Every single bit, so especially your cache folders and settings.

At that moment you have 2 choices: Never come to SL again is not the best of those two, so you could try the following:

- Update your video drivers. Make sure they are the last ones for your card.
- Install SL from the scratch.
- Prey it works this time.

Most crashes are either caused by a fault ni the cache, or bad video drivers, so these options are your best.

If this still doesn't work, try an alternative viewer like Nicolas.

Thanks for the reply. I have just started having this issue and prior to it, never had any issues logging in. Not saying it s a SL issue as I am not sure at all why it is happening but if you of someone has experienced this and found a way to resolve it, I would really appreciate the help. Thank you again for taking the time.

Thanks you the suggestoins. If I uninstall the program and reinstall it, will it affect anything in my inventory?

Nope, your inventory is safely (???) put on those borky asset servers at the Linden Fortress ;-)

Darn you are faster then I can type :-) Did you actually remove the cache files after the uninstall? Location:
C:\Documents and Settings\<your name>\Application Data\SecondLife\cache
I would delete the entire contents of the Secondlife folder, so the settings for the avatars are removed as well.

If even that doesnt help, I would say try Nicolas viewer. Cant help you with that since I never used it though.

You could also try having someone send you an IM or you can login with a different avvy and IM your avvy with the login problem. That sort of kicks the server into logging you out.

From what I've seen recently when you try to login and your avatar is already logged in on another client the server will immediately boot you off SL. So I imagine that if your client crashes and the server thinks you are still online, logging in again will tell the server to boot you off so that you can login later.

Oh, uh... do you keep getting this error over and over and just never manage to login? That really shouldn't happen, but if it *is* happening, and if what Bree suggests doesn't work, I'd try two things.

First, reboot everything on the local network between the client machine and the wall jack (routers, cable/DSL/fibre modems, wireless bridges... anything between the viewer and the line coming in). These things should not cause such a problem, but then neither should anything else.

Second, try logging in to a different region. From the startup screen, Edit / Preferences / General / Show Start Location on Login Screen, and pick something common like Ahern for the Start Location box at the bottom of the screen. Again, this should not be the problem, but the problem shouldn't really be able to happen anyway.

Definitely try what Qie suggested. In some cases, the router/hub/modem might not be letting fully go of the connection to the LL servers. I sometimes get this if I crashed out due to a brown out, which forces the computer to reboot, but not the router. Yes, this is also the message I get.

I did not go and delete the cache files though did delete them through SL before I uninstalled. Is that the same? If I deletethe settings for the avatars, will my avatar look the same or will I need to redo him?

Thanks Qie,

That is the problem though if I try and try and try, eventually I can get in but that is not the way its supposted to work so I am seeking the solution. I have reinstalled and that did not work but I did not go and get the cache files. I will do that next but am concerned about my inventory and the settings for my avatar. If I delete those, will my av look new again? Thanks for your help

Ok I will try that. Thank you so much! Are the servers for SL ever restarted to clear up these issues?

Hey Bree,

Thanks for the help. You said above to IM my av with a different av with the login problem. Is that just sending an im saying something like "hi"?

Thanks

Everything about your avatar is on the Linden Servers, if you would login on my laptop with your login, you look exactly the same as you do on your pc. So you can safely remove the entire contents of the folder I pointed out.
Furthermore the tips about trying an Alt and a different login region might help as well. Lots of things to try :-)

Well, SL definitely acts like you're still online... which is really unusual. Where were you when you logged out? do you remember? At this point it looks like the server might have failed to log you out. This is sadly "Support Ticket" material.. and reisntalling your client, rebooting your computer, or whatever... isn't going to solve anything. SL simply thinks you're still online.

You simply have to wait until SL logs you out. The sim you were last in, may need to be rebooted. So it could be minutes, it could be hours or longer.

Thanks Marcel! I will try what your suggest. I will start with the ALT....seems to be a good tool to have for the future. Thank you so much for helping me with this. I am learning the helpful nature of the people on SL. Thanks again!

I was at my home location. Can you see where I am now? Am I moving at all? Could someone have gotten my AV somehow???

Your ghost JUST logged off.. try now.

I IMed you and it didn't log you out. I pinged a notecard at you, and it didn't log you out, so I offered you a teleport, and then you logged out. Possibly a coincedence though, who cares. end result, you logged off.

note... SL said he was offline.. but now SL says he's online again.. and he's not responding to IM attempts.. so something may be going wrong in his login sequence.. I visited the links in his profile, and one of them was HORRENDOUSLY lagged... so if he's logging in there, and crashing during login, that might be triggering the issue.

/me makes a note to ensure that self and Alt are set to see each others locations on Map.
That's not a very intuitive thing to do, but given this situation it would make it easier for us to find ourselves.

Thank you again for your help. I was able to log in and enjoy SL for the most part error free.....except for some funny IM issues which I can live with. I did notice when I logged out that the program ended very quikly and to me did not look like it went and logged me out. It was confirmed this morning when I checked my email and a friend asked if I ever log off because I was still on. Which link in my profile was horrendously lagged? Maybe I can get rid of that one and try. Thanks again so much for your help.
