The ai bot is basically a chat bot. It's not looking at the image of the virtual world and deciphering it. It may or may not be reading the raw packets, like a libsecondlife bot would do, or it may or may not be restricting itself to the text stream that a human could read, friend's list that a human could see. The story didn't go into a great deal of detail but it did say that it's not doing much other than responding to chat.

Given this restriction, what makes SL a better place to work on AI bots than an IRC channel?

I suspect someone like getting paid to watch video games.

What if you did try to use a vision processing system to interpret the view we see in SL? Instead of data that is molded by the laws of physics - humans stay human, objects don't just appear from nowhere, etc., the AI program would probably need to get put in the AI Asylum in short order.

After you stick one not too far from an infohub, wearin a superhero costume, ready to chat, then leave it on and go to sleep, take a look at the conversations in the morning & u realize you get all kindsa folks talkin to the bot, includin' a lot of boneheads.

The boneheads tend to test the crap outta chat-bots on the Grid, more than folks w/ common sense, and the feedback gives you more to work with when u go back & teach your AI bot how to answer that kinda garbage. As your bot gets better at talkin' to darth vaders who hover around infohubs, talkin' to "normal" folks, is easy as pie.

Been there, done that. SL is actually prime space for AI "bots", and I'm shocked there aren't more in-world already.

I am trying to remember where I saw this, but someone hooked up that hoary Eliza program to their chat and left it on. Since the avatar was female, needless to say in SL she had her share of suitors.....

Couldn't one run their chatbot in a forums and chatrooms, and make a website that says, "Hi, I'm a chatbot, let's talk", and maybe get the chatbot a wordpress.com blog?

One thing I've noticed- they dont handle slang too well. Nor insults, cynicism, sarcasm or Pittsburgh-ese.

How long have you been trying to remember where you saw this that someone hooked up that hoary eliza program to their chat and left it on since the avatar was female needless to say in sl she had her share of suitors?

I have one I've been running for a few weeks now at my bar, and I have to say it's been an interesting experiment. He is an ALICE bot hosted at pandorabots, and I have been slowly working my way tru his responses files to make him more male/human like although I'm only about 1/3 way tru his code he is developing quite a personality of his own. My aim (as the one in the article mentioned above) is to give him not only his own individual personality but a degree of autonomus movement within the bar itself.

Before anybody starts, I am not a suporter of the bots we currently have to contend with in SL, (trafic bot, camp bots, and spy bots, ect..) and I do not agree with any of the excuses for their use. However this I think is a valid use of the resorces of a private estate, and does not in any way impact on other peoples resorces.

Death to all bots, but leave my Stumpy alone, or he'll come over and kick your ass.

No, I don't care about that. Tell me where to get Eliza and how to hook it up to my chat. I want to see what happens.

Maybe she'd make a good escort, if we just add in some Xcite type responses.

I want a bot that chats like an escort with a client. I want it to lead the client on, tease him/her. I want it to request payment, and blow the client off if it's not paid. If it IS paid, I want it to be erotically responsive in chat, and I want it to hop on the bed's poseball and undress itself, too. It should "know" what animation has been chosen and chat accordingly. Afterwards, I want it to tell the client what a terrific lover he/she is, so the client will come back again.

It'd be especially cool if the bot would also recognize and use a dance pole, and had a line of chat to tease the client from there.

I'll buy ten or twelve of them, put 'em in a brothel with dance poles and beds, and make a bloody fortune.

Maybe even open a chain.

LOL..I HAD got to a point where when asked certain questions my bot DID say "WTF??"

Takes a while but yeah u can get 'em ta handle a lotta slang, it's just REAL tedious.

A few spots have "bot packages" for sale, I just took a glance at 'em...one spot I can think about is Sine Wave Island. I forget what side of the Island it's on, but there's a big infopack & what not...I dunno how far u can go with it, but I can see NPC "dancers/strippers" being made EASILY w/ that package.

I'm one of the ones that tests the hell out of chat bots just for the fun of playing with them. It's sort of like an etch-a-sketch for people who like to play with words.
