Hi guys,

I built my club/shopping area before I had set up the group tags. The land is set to group now. All vendors stuff is set to group also.

The problem is the build. Some of it I built with no tag and shows up as belonging to owner, some of it was built under the group tag and some of it was also built by me under another group tag.

My question is this, and I know its a bit of a mess in that state, but if I now set autoreturn on will it return items that i have built and therefore belong to me, that are not set under the new group tag?

Can you help me to get my head around this please?

Thanks

Yes, with the land set to group, auto return will return anything that is not set to group.

The easiest way to set all this stuff is to view it all from a distance, set tools to select only your stuff, then click and draw a big box around everthing. Then set it all to the group you want in the edit window.

Then turn on autoreturn.

I thought so... never mind - I'll have to undertake the challenge of finding everything...

Thanks for that :)

Yes, with the land set to group, auto return will return anything that is not set to group.

Actually, I think if the land is just SET to group -- meaning it still has an individual owner -- items owned by the land owner will not be auto-returned, even if they are not set to the group.

But if the land is DEEDED to the group -- meaning it has no individual owner -- items must be set (not necessarily deeded) to the group to avoid auto-return.

It doesn't matter whether or not the land is deeded. When autoreturn is on, if the item is not set to the same group that the land is set or deeded to, it will go poof into inventory. Or trash, if the item was a group-deeded no trans item.

Gosh... I wouldn't want to risk it, but I think there's some special dispensation for objects owned by the parcel *owner*. I tried it just now on my land, and auto-return doesn't seem to be returning my object that's not set to the group to which the land is set (not deeded). But YMMV, so... I wouldn't risk it with a whole build.

From the Knowledge Base:

"You can also set Autoreturn to automatically return any objects in the Others group after a given number of minutes from the Objects tab of the About Land window;
...
Autoreturn should return all objects categorized as Owned by others
...
When you enter a number for Autoreturn, it's set instantly and retroactively, so entering 15 (for example) will immediately cause any objects marked as Owned by others that have been left for more than 15 minutes to return to their owners."

So, at least according to the KB, autoreturn only returns items listed in the Land window as belonging to Others. If land is just SET to group, prims belonging to the land owner will be listed under Owner, not Others, so they will not (well, should not) be autoreturned.

Nevertheless, Qie has a good point... I had a ton of stuff autoreturned once while deeding several parcels to a group, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Best to be careful. :)
