I have it all set up for SL .. NOT the First Look Viewer with voice and I am not seeing where it is to turn it off!! I'm talking about the "howling" of the wind. The SL version w/out First look it's right there in Preferences/Audio & Video.. I am not seeing it here in the First Look w/voice version. Also, what is it I need to put the silent sound file in for when you close out a window etc? I know most things are accesable thru the Debug settings I just need to know where to go to turn them off in the First Look Viewer. Thanks You can either send me an offline or I am going to send this so I am notified thru email that a reply has been made. Thanks again

OH oops corrected my post just realized you want to know where it is IN first look
confused me the way you had it posted
If I recall in first look under edit, preferences, sounds, there should be a slider there for wind
(going on memory)

(going on memory) whewwww it's all under the UI...the Wind is listed as Wind in the version w/out voice(First Look). That wind(howling) is like someone locking you in a pressure tunnel with the howling...drives me INSAAAAAAAANE Thanks!!

Preferences Window > Audio & Video Tab > Wind Volume (slider). Set that to 0 and you will never hear it again unless you deleted your settings.xml lol.

I think it's now known as Ambient but i could be mistakin. I'm quite sure that wind sound should be real annoying now that we have voice chat.

I havent looked for it, but if it's anywhere, enable your debug menus (<CTRL><ALT><SHIFT> + D for PC, <OPTION><ALT><SHIFT> + D for Mac). 2 new menus will appear... Client and Server. In the Client menu is a choice called Debug Settings. In the dropdown, look for it in there, if it is, it's probably named something like AmbientWind or something like that. Set it to false if you find it.
Be careful in there, dont change anything you're unsure of. Also, while you are in there, check out RenderGlow and RenderDynamicReflection (Yeah! they're working on it)

Wind doesn't have it's own slider in the First Look viewer like it does with the regular viewer, which is why I HATE the First Look and won't use it again.

In the new viewer it's been combined with footstep sounds into the Ambient slider.

But, in turning off ambient sounds, don't you lose sounds other than the annoying wind?

The damn wind is useful sometimes: You can tell the damn sound (or some of it) is on...
