I cannot figure out how do you guys post multiple quotes when posting your reply. I use the the cut and paste but that doesn't capture the "boxed' quote look like it does when you are using one quote. I have been wanting to ask that for ages now.

Thanks Guys :D

You just copy and paste and use the quote tags around each message you want to reply to. In the newer versions of VB there is a multiquote button that does it automatically for you. But god forbid if we get a forum upgrade...

From: Pep
Or you could make them up
By using ]quote=whoever[whatever you want to say]/quote[ except with the brackets reversed.

Or to get a quote within a quote:

]quote=George Washington[I could never tell a lie]quote=Jimmy Carter[Me neither]/quote[]/quote[

would give you

From: George Washington
I could never tell a lie
From: Jimmy Carter
Me neither

Pep (Unless you could get away with it.)

I'm always getting the quotes wrong - I just don't try complicated keyboard things if I can help it. (Unless it's our Yamaha one.)

1) I right click the Quote box and say "open in a new tab".

2) I then edit out of the quoted stuff whatever I want to drop and then outside of the '[/QUOTE]' I say want I want.

3) Now, before submitting the post, I go back to the original tab and right click on the next thing I want to quote and say "open in a new tab". In that tab, I cut/copy all the quote, change to the tab that has my first reply and paste the additional quote. Then I then repeat #2 and #3 for as many quotes as I want.

Practice that a bit before trying to embed a quote within a quote.

If you do not have multiple tabs to work with, you can do all of the quoting and pasting in a Notepad window and then when it is how you want, copy it all into a Reply box.

Basically, every time you have a pair of "[ QUOTE ]" and "[/QUOTE]" tags (no spaces though around the word QUOTE), the stuff between will be quoted. And the opening tag of "
From: someone
" can be like "
From: any-name
and their name shows -- note that the ending tag does not change regardless of whether the opening one has a name or not.

Thank you so much LittleMe. :)
I am going to practice your suggestion. Although the notepad suggestion by far seems to be the simpliest. :D

Deira, I don't care much for complicated keyboard things either. :)

/me heads to the printer to pick up my print out of this information.

sable, your test would have worked...you forgot to reverse the brackets.

The original example had the brackets backwards to keep it from "going live". So don't say ]qu0te[

say [qu0te]

(I changed the "o" in quote to a zero for the same reason.)

I use a variation of LittleMe's technique... because I have two of my extra mouse buttons slaved to alt+tab, and alt+f4.... (and the mouse wheel slaved to shft, and the browser opens in a new window)

shft+left click the first post's reply button I want to respond to (opens in new window)
alt+tab back to the first one
continue reading, find another, open it the same way
shft+drag to hilight, right click, select cut
alt+f4 to close it
alt+tab to change to the open reply
right click, select past
alt+tab back to my reading

... and so on it goes, without ever touching the keyboard =)

can you tell I do WAY too much web browsing?

Lindal, I thought I was using the example Pep gave. Now this is becoming confusing and no doubt will be daunting.

/me chants "notepad" " notepad" "notepad"

Notepad is better, in case I accidentally close the wrong tab in my browser and lose the whole thing.

When you quote someone, you see that their text ends in [/quote] (the end-quote string) and starts with
From: Their Name
, right?

Just copy the text, and start a new quote block, so you get
From: Their Name
From: Another Name
and paste the copied text here, and then add the end-quote string.

I just cheat, click on the first post quote button I want to quote, copy the text and tags, paste it at the bottom of the reply box for reference, do another paste at the top under the original formatted quote, then edit and change all the info to what I want in the one I pasted. Lather rinse repeat for each reply I want to quote.

For example if I was going to quote several replies (or pieces of them) from this thread as I was making the post, I'd scroll down, grab the line/s, paste them in the appropriate spot in the post I'm making, then copy and paste the poster's name in the appropriate spot in the quote tag itself. For each reply I would want to quote, I'd just copy from my reference paste at the bottom of my reply box. Once I'm finished pasting in all the quotes and poster's names, I highlight and delete the reference at the bottom of the reply box and submit it.

Probably not the most efficient method, but it works for me

I think you missed this bit of my post:

Open a tin of sardines?

They prefer the plain ones in oil - but they will eat the ones in tomato sauce.
