hello all i called myself searching for this topic in the forums so i wouldnt repeat anything but no luck to me.
What if I don't want to own land?
The Basic account is the plan for you. Without having to pay any money, a Basic membership allows you access to Second Life at any time. If you have a verified Basic account, you'll also recieve $L250 upon verification.
Can anyone explain this to me? I saw this when i was reading about land ownership. What do they mean by verification? are they talking about age? as far as i know it has been verified but i never recieved any linden because of it.

Can you post a link to where you found that? It looks like outdated info to me.
Currently free (basic) accounts don't recieve a stipend of any kind, age verified or not. In order to recieve a stiped you must upgrade to a "premium" account, which allows you to own mainland and gives a L$300/week stipend.
(Basic accounts can, however, buy linden dollars and rent land on either mainland or estates.)

I believe the 250L is bonus received for adding a payment method during registration.

That information is no longer valid. It's at least a year out of date.
There was a point at which, durring the initial registration process, you could choose to *either* go Premium, and get the higher stipend and a big sign-on bonus, *OR* decline to go Premium but provide full payment info, and they would give you a small L$ bonus - but ONLY if you did it right then, as part of sign-up. If you declined to provide payment info or go Premium, you went on through the rest of the Basic account sign-up process, but got no bonus.
I collected this bonus a couple of times when making alts, as it has always been my habit to provide fully verified info on all my accounts. But quite some time ago, they changed the registration process and eliminated that payment info choice for Basic. In the current process, you either go Premium, or you go Free Basic, and are not given an option to provide payment info at registration. If you want to provide payment info, you have to go to the LL website after the account has been created, and provide it there. And you do NOT get any bonus that way. For that matter, LL doesn't even recognize in-world that you DID provide the payment info via the website, until you actually BUY something from LL, such as a minimum purchase of $2.50 USD worth of L$.

I remember getting this bonus when I signed up and used my cc to change to payment info verified or something. It's amazing how much 250 lindens seemed to me back then.

According to that page it was just created a couple of months ago and was last modified a month after it was created. So you guys are telling me its old but its not. Either way I am not trippin. I just know that I never received anything for adding my cc info on file. And it needed to be clear that it was something you get during registration, yadda yadda. But I do appreciate you guys clearing it up for me =) I was about to get excited at the thought of getting a lil extra change =)

The 250 was (perhaps still is) if you created a basic account with payment info on file (during the creating process). So, either adding a credit card or a Paypal account. The verification in this text means that the payment method must be verified, if you added a non verified Paypal, you would not recieve the 250. If your verification of your payment method was not already existing at the time of creating the accouunt, you would not get the 250. When I created my account, I added Paypal, but my verification did not come through yet, so no 250. When I created my alt, the Paypal verification was done, so my alt got 250. If all this is still the same now I don't know And yes, 250L seemed a lot of money then

While *something* on that page was changed recently, that doesn't mean they read every word of fine print on the page before posting it. Any of the paragraphs above that, and there were many, could have been what was updated most recently there.
That information IS obsolete, regardless of how recently the page was updated. It is referencing a policy that was in effect between 6/6/2006 and about nine to 12 months ago, when they changed the sign up process and eliminated the option to provide payment info for a basic account as part of sign-up.
The fact is, the current registration process only gives you one way to provide payment information at the time of registration, and that method is to buy a Premium account on sign-up. And they get a higher sign up bonus. Providing it later, even seconds later, via the website, gets you nothing at all.
I created maybe three accounts in the period of time between when they stopped paying a weekly stipend PLUS a L$250 sign-up bonus for reating a new Basic account, and the time when they stopped making it possible to provide that information by any means other than going Premium. I created several more accounts after that change, and with several versions of the sign-up process, and have NEVER been able to provide payment info *as part of the sign-up process* since that change, while declining to purchase a Premium account.
The free $250 for a new Basic account with Payment Info was dead a long time ago, most likely because too many people were creating accounts just to collect that paltry amount, transfer hundreds of those small sums to a central account, and cash out. The same sort of greedy gold farming that killed the First Land program.
