Was a little curious since I plan to take a hiatus of a month or so from SL.

No. They stay active forever until LL changes its policy on free accounts.

It depends what you mean by deactivated. If they are disabled, I believe they can remain that way indefinitely until the owner gives LL what it wants to reactivate it. If the owner cancels the account, I believe they have 30-90 days (not sure) to reactivate their cancelled account.

It is safe to take a month long break from SL; nothing will happen to your account, just don't cancel it or anything.

The only accounts that ever get deleted are the premium accounts who lapse on a payment (and then only after 90ish days).

A basic account won't get deactivated unless you specifically cancel it. You can always get your name back (assuming you have a way of identifying yourself with the name on record for that account) as long as you pay a $9.95 reactivation fee. The same 90ish days period applies here if you want your name and your inventory back after expressly cancelling your account (or your L$ balance for that matter since it gets wiped as well).

As long as you're basic, you can take a break for as long as you want and come back to find your account the way you left it.

This sounds crazy , free accounts who haven't logged in for 2 years still have the lot and premiums from 12 months lose everything?

Premiums only get their inventory deleted if they are excessively late on their premium payments. I don't know how long it takes before they delete things, but they do. I don't know if you can set up automatic withdrawl for your premium subscription to your bank account, but that would be one way of being safe in case you forgot to manually pay the bill. It's not the nicest or brightest policy out there. If you are going to leave SL for a while, either downgrade your account or make sure your premium fee is paid.

They don`t get deleted. Their lands ( if owned ) are taken and sold of to recovcer any non payment funds etc.The accounts have their account information reading no payment online etc. The only real case that aplies to this type of thinking was when LLABS was targeting the charter members that no longer loged in and wanted their land reclaimed. The forced them to come back to the game to hold on to their 4028 Plot of land that was given to them when they signed up for a life time one time payment. They pay no month tier fees or membership fees

that's one thing I like about this game.

Perhaps they should leave them all standing around where they logged out too

I set up my annual subs with my credit card. I just had it resubscribed. It needed no action on my part. I had a confirmation email from LL announcing the charge.

I had for bit things set up monthly with this account and then something went buggy at billing so now I used credit and prepay.
By the way to OP I had account from beta in 2003 that was reactivated few months back ago.
I lost everything in inventory but I knew that in advance, luckily not much was there in first place.
Yet before I reactivated the account he basically had vanished.
I think it was because from the time period he was from.

Which island honey? I usually spend a month there too, and getting on line is really the pitts. I have to use dial up.

But who cares? I'd gladly trade a month online to be in Hawaii
