Is there any active pubs, or sports bar type places in SL that have just been illusive to me? I'm over the clubs need something more mellow.

I think the forum cartel is supposed to be like that.

For women, there is also the lesbian teahouse (DO NOT confuse that with anything else that comes up under the search term lesbian) - which has a dance floor, but is mostly crowds of people hanging around tables and couches in IM.

Some of the New Citizens spots can end up pretty hangout like.

I'm semi-away from SL these days, or I'd be pushing my cafe. My intention when I get back is to turn it into a hangout - but its not there yet.

The problem I find is that unless you hit a club or a roleplay sim, 90% of the crowd anywhere else is going to be in IM rather than local chat - making even a full hangout often seem very lonely.

Are you looking for a place that simulates a pub (has a bar, some stools, scripted drinks, a dartboard, etc.) or a sports bar (has a bar, some stools, scripted drinks, a "TV" showing football games or cricket matches or some such, etc. )?

I'm starting to think it's not location that does it, but common interest. I see more people at events than at hang outs.

So I'm going to start responding to all those event announcements I get from the various groups I'm in. It's the better way to hang out for me - and you don't necessarily have to fill awkward silences.

Have you tried the Blarney Stone pub? Their events tend to be during European hours, though, so if you're in the US and can only get on at night that's not much help.

They usually take place at clubs or pubs or such, but try searching for trivia events, too. You'll start seeing the same faces over time, and you'll have something to do while you hang out.

Maybe the live music scene... though I find I more often get to know the crowd that follows the musician around, rather than the people at a single venue.

I wanted to check out a talent show at a lesbian hangout the other day, but they wouldn't let my in cuz of my Y-chromosome. *sad face*

I don't really have many good suggestions myself, though I'd be interested in hearing some.

A pub is mellow?

Try Dublin. There is a pub there. What's it called...Well, if you go you will find it.

Sports bars, I don't know. Try checking for sports trivia in "events."
