Just a quick question that I could not find the answer to. I was wondering when someone's IM's are capped, and you send them a message, do you get a automated response stating that the recipient's IM's are capped??

That is the source of untold amounts of grief in Merchant/customer relations, when a customer tries contacting an off-line merchant with a problem, and thinks the message got through, but the merchant never sees it because of capped messages.

From the recipient's end, they don't know how many messages they missed. They may or may not see a message on login indicating that their saved IM's were capped. Odds are, that message flies by so fast they never notice it.

Though as a help... i think when you get your offlines "IMs sent to Email" that even when your IMs get capped a few more (if not all) will still make it to your email.

i'm not actually certain \all\ do, but i've absolutely gotten offline IMs making it to my Email (after my offline IM cap) that didn't make it to me 'in world'.

I don't think they all go through to e-mail. I will get some of them even when I'm capped, but definitely not all. Even messages that come in when I'm not capped don't always make it to my e-mail.

Kind of on the same topic.....I've been having issues with responding to e-mailed messages. Usually a response through e-mail will get to the person in world but recently it seems to be hit or miss if it ever actually goes through. Anyone else having this issue?

Is there a set number that they are 'capped' at? i.e. Anything over 25 will be lost?

The cap is fixed at 100 IMs.

That '100 IM' number includes a lot of stuff which does not appear to be an IM.

You can get your IMs capped if you have an object sending you object IMs.

You can get your IMs capped through people giving you stuff ('so and so has given you such and such' messages.)

If prims are returned, through autoreturn, parcel owner return, or too-many prims, ('second life has sent you a message..')

Any and all of these are counted against your IMs and will contribute to capping.

group messages seem to count too...
and... for me.. the number seems way less than a 100.. O.o...
