Hello,
I have an island that is actually a roleplay environment that is supposed to be situated deep in a desert. While many residents appreciate cool crisp waves and hazy wisps of cloud nearby the community on this island want to see miles of sand and not a cloud in the sky.
Using the Environment Editor (World --> Environment Settings --> Environment Editor) I have managed to make a setting that I am happy with, but it is only local to my viewer and I also have to reset it each time I log in. Does anyone know of a way by which I can enforce these environment settings for all residents who visit the Island? If that is not possible then it would also be good if I didn't have to reset my own environment each login.
Thanks for any help.

I think for now the best you can do is make your settings available for download by others outside of SL. Torley does this, and may have a tutorial on it. I think they have setting a region default planned for the future.

The only things that can be set at sim level are time of day, water level, and (I think) the presence and level of clouds. There are no sim-wide Windlight settings (consarnit) and I don't know of any plans to add them.
A trick I'd recommend is to lay down a sand-textured 65535x65535 megaprim right above the water level to make it look like endless desert instead of ocean. It's a startling effect. You should also use the 'repeats per meter' option instead of 'repeats per face' when texturing, to give yourself more control over how the texture looks.

I just solved this dilemma myself.....in that you CAN in fact keep your settings upon log-in. You really can't tell others what to do in world as the environment settings are part of each individuals expereince and folks are going to want to play around with their own atmosphere. You can have a suggested setting for the land and make it available for download.....but to try to 'enforce' that I think might be futile. But....for yourself.....yes......what you'll need to do is create a day/night cycle and play it. Once you are in the day/night cycle editer......you select the setting you like and apply it to each of the presets along the day/night line. You can go from day to night by saving the original sky in different gama settings......and use those saved variations for your evening, early morning and midnight tabs along the day/night editer. Once you've done this you can play a test day and make it 2 minutes so you can see quickly how your entire day/night will run.....then you save the test day....and load it.... and play it. Once you've loaded a test day and hit 'play'.....your test day will run as such even when you re-log. You can set to region default so the timing runs the same as it would in a normal SL day to night.....but it will always be 'your' settings that appear. If you need help setting this up.....contact me in-world and I can walk you through it. It's sort of overwhelming at first with the day/night cycle editer...but really once you see how it works...it's a fantastic tool and it allows everyone to have their own 'default' day/night cycle.
