translators in "no script" areas

The Babbler, and the other language translators I'm aware of, don't work in no-script areas.

This is a big problem in places like Orientation Island.

Does anyone know of a translator that will function in no-script areas?

I would LOVE to know this too.

It bugs me no end that if I'm helping a new resident and taking them around for freebies and the like and need to use Babbler I have to keep on taking them back to my own place to explain stuff. Like how to open the box they just bought ;)

The alternative of using a web translator slows things down too much IMHO.

Is the sandbox area also no-script? You may be able to put on the Babbler there, then walk into a no-script area...

Hi, I'm new to posting here-been in SL a while though. Babbler is an amazing tool-however I wear mine all the time but in a no script area it just doesn't function. It's not about being able to wear it-it's that scripts have to be on for babbler to work.

One expedient is to get over 100 meters, scripts will work up there.

Are any of these translation tools open source?

Yeah, I rely on this one a lot, because sometimes my tail goes berserk after teleporting.

It probably would be a good idea to get the attachment "flight feather" that will make flying & remaining at that altitude easier.

Should have said hi and welcome to the forum Goshawk :)

Actually I prefer my flight band, dunno why but it seems more stable. Also, flight feather got detached at random more often, which is kinda not so great when you live 500m up in the sky :D

Supposidly any script that uses "llTakeControls" should work in no-script areas as-is (or as someone else pointed out, simply fly up to 50m AGL).

Mm, it's even enough to get the controls permission, don't even need to actually take controls.

And the function doesn't have to be in the script in question. Just drop in a scrip taking control permission, and all scripts in the entire object will run, although they are throttled back quite a bit.

I'll suggest takeControls for the next revision of Babbler if someone doesn't beat me to it

AFAIK none of them uses this trick ATM

Are they in all places? I believe I'd read they just ran slower in no script areas? (Which feels logical...) I'd love to know which way it is if anyone has tested?

I've also seen that is not true of scripts in child prims of an object, and they will also throw up a permission blue box request if the object is attached, unlike scripts in the root prim. ;)

Scripts in items you're wearing BEFORE you enter the script-prohibited region will continue to work. Note that your AO is still working?

I don't know whether this trick works with the other exception, which is moving up to 100M or whatever the limit is. In other words, if you go up and come back down, will scripts keep working? Easy to test.

Most AOs will work because they have obtained PERMISSION_TAKE_CONTROLS as mentioned earlier in the thread. Scripts that don't ask for this will eventually take a nap in no scrip areas.

Provided that the script gets itself that permission, yes it will start up there and keep working on the ground.

Just Open SL in a Window instead of full screen, Open an Internet page, Go to babelfish, and cut, and paste manually. it's a bit slower, But you can still Communicate.

I totally forgot to include in my post the other day, the Multi gadget has had Babelfish built into it for many versions now, and obviously works in no script areas (never mind being useful for innumerable other things as well of course!) :)

(Sorry, I so take it for granted! LOL)

You might find it useful to do Help / In-World Help . Then put translate.google.com into the url field.

You can copy and past text between SL and the In-World mozilla browser.
