I can barely see anything on midnight settings, everything is so dark. It wasn't like that before and I haven't changed anything on SL or on my laptop. Are there any settings I can use to make it a little lighter? I know how to use environment settings to change it to day, but I'd like to see things under the midnight settigns. Any hel appreciated thanks.

I think playing with the "scene gamma" settings would help: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Advanced_Sky_Editor

There used to be an adjustment in the preferences settings for this (gamma?). But looking now I can't find it. SL has changed so much... Maybe someone else can help.

There used to be an adjustment in the preferences settings for this (gamma?). But looking now I can't find it. SL has changed so much... Maybe someone else can help. Ya the gamma setting used to be more visible but now it's a bit buried in the advanced sky editor > lighting tab. Apparently it is supposed to be more precise: "Scene Gamma: This control functions similarly to the Gamma setting in the Graphics Hardware Settings (formerly Adv. Graphics) tab. It adjusts your screen's distribution of light and dark output. Lower settings will cause everything to appear dim, while higher settings may make the scene look gray and "washed out". Scene Gamma is more precise than the older Gamma in that it only affects your rendered view of the SL world- not the menus and rest of your computer's screen. " _____________________

Do you have "nearby local lights" or "sun and moon only" selected in the Graphics tab in Preferences?
I know that when I up my graphics settings to take a pic, and then go back down to low, for instance, I forget to click "nearby local lights" back on. Not so bad in the daylight, but at night it tends to be a tad extra dark... |

Lights and shiny things showing up (or not) depend (to a certain degree) on your gaphic settings.
Are you on High or Ultra? Another thing I considered is more simple - I turned down the intensity of my display because of daylight being too bright sometimes - so midnicht view is rather dark now. And some SIM Builders really have dark buildings for good reasons - so midnight is not always midnight. Sun and moon brightness is adjustable too - the environment edtor offers a very wide variety of settings to brighten up your picture. And sorry - I don't have a quick solution - it often takes me an hour to adjust the einvironment to get a nice picture when doing photos - there's so much to adjust. Hope this helps a bit. I got rid of the default midnight and used WindLight to make a day / night cycle with a bit lighter midnight. I don't remember the details but it's relatively easy if I could do it with my limited time.

" The old gamma control is still there, but only works if atmospheric shaders are turned off. If the OP isn't using atmospheric shaders, it's worth checking to make sure it' not gotten changed. Also, check the computer's brightness and contrast controls. _____________________
