How long does it usually take after you pay for the Homepage Featured, before it actually shows up? I keep seeing the same two dozen items but not the one I added some hours ago...

There are loads of homepage featured items, the chances of you seeing yours is slim but your stats will show you the number of times it has appeared.

In my experience it takes indeed a few hours for them to kick in, and the best check is in your statistics. That also gives a clue whether homepage views result in actual visits.

Unless you are a top tier seller, you will rarely see your featured homepage ad. Top tier sellers get much better placement and more frequent views. On the other hand, as long as you can make enough sales to cover the cost of the ad it IS worth it for the extra exposure.

Mine generally show up within an hour. Effectiveness is going to depend on your product and your ad. I rarely sell the items on Xstreet - but it does send a lot of traffic to the store, and they buy the products there.
It generally doubles the views/traffic on Xstreet....which you should be able to translate to more traffic/sales to store. I did notice that when I ran a bunch of featured ads at the reduced price.....view counts were less than when the price was 899 - must have been an onslaught of people taking advantage - so it actually was less effective during that time period. What seems to be more effective....is to just keep increasing your inventory on Xstreet. Adding several products will increase your views as much as paying for the featured listing. More products, and they'll click on other products.....just keep increasing the numbers. |

those featured listing things are a perfect way to suck your profits out of your pocket and put them back in the wrong pockets.
I never ever purchase anything because of a feature listing - if I am looking for something I will find it.. featured or not. Chances are that I will pick a non featured item over a featured item because if a merchant can blow megabucks on featuring that item and dumping serious cash into Banners, chances are that the product is way overpriced or garbage that would never be found if it wasn't featured. I ran some tests and stopped featuring my stuff for a few months and only noticed a tiny difference in sales. The net result was in my favor. I recently featured a item and it took about 1-1/2 weeks before I saw it and I am on there constantly. I doubt I will do that again, but would rather spend that money on different forms of advertising from now on. The sheer amount of money that is being wasted by Merchants on there is mindboggling... EDITTT : Oh and now Homepage features are completely useless because there really isn't a home page anymore unless you dig hard and deep nobody will ever see that again except for other merchants looking for their own ads.. _____________________

Oh and now Homepage features are completely useless because there really isn't a home page anymore unless you dig hard and deep nobody will ever see that again except for other merchants looking for their own ads.. Yes, the site redesign makes Homepage Featured items much less visible. All you really see is the banner ad until you scroll down, as compared with the old design that genuinely showcased the Homepage Featured items. I haven't looked at the Merchant forums since the redesign began (last week), but I'll bet there are a lot of merchants voicing disillusionment with the idea of laying out cash for the Homepage Featured enhancement. (The big question: will LL make up for the inevitable fall-off in revenue from purchases of that enhancement with revenue from purchases of the banner ads?) _____________________

So you do see the sense in them at times then, you've used them, and your stuff isn't overpriced garbage. Come on, play nicely. Compared to how much people spend in inworld advertising the homepage featured listings are comparitively cheap, I wouldn't exactly call it megabucks but you're right that they can be a waste of money. If the product doesn't stand out then it doesn't really matter whether it is featured or not, people won't be clicking on it. However the strong evidence is that these adverts do generate more views. Now the more people that pay for them, the more they get diluted and LL just had a sale, so that's probably like a cheap listing day on ebay and everyone's visibility goes down. Oh and now Homepage features are completely useless because there really isn't a home page anymore unless you dig hard and deep nobody will ever see that again except for other merchants looking for their own ads.. However this, yes I agree. This is a strange move by Linden Lab, way to undermine a service you're selling. They've definitely reduced the visibility with that move. |

From what i have read about the banner signs it is pretty worthless because it is not a time period but a number of appearnaces- which means if somehow it appears at a bad time for my stuff how ever that might be defined then it is wasted. I prefer buying adverts that i know will at least be seen for a period of time, ie - 30 days.
The homepage freatures I would consider I have had success with, perhaps not always in direct sales but in visibility. If they click once the must have liked it at least a little and maybe just maybe they will be curious as to what else I can offer. The new Homepage visibility I agree- it is a down turn and unless somehting chnages miy mind, I won't be renewing my current features. As for the XStreet forums- goodluck even finding them now- the redesign screwed that up too and now yoo have to dig to find it- Stupid choice in designs- they should have hired out... _____________________

So you do see the sense in them at times then, you've used them, and your stuff isn't overpriced garbage. Come on, play nicely. Shirley you can't be serious? Nicely? Me? haha Of course my stuff will look like overpriced garbage if things keep progressing the way they have on that Dumpster of a website.. hell, a 15L item will look like overpriced Garbage soon at this rate I experimented with the upgraded lstings only to see if it really makes a difference after not using them for a few months. I looked at this whole situation very carefully. I believe that SLX TRUly has a terminal Disease and am only using it because there are no valid alternate choices .. and lately it seems that the overall quality and values of items as a whole are dropping like a rock..but there sure are plenty of new items .. A great example is the dude who has been listing 100 new fresh photos a day straight from the internet and he is up to about 5000 items with no descriptions within a few months .. just a title.. but they are starting to fill in the search hits nicely for your increased shopping pleasure and additional choice. you should read the stuff I wrote about that place and deleted before hitting submit on this, hahaha I would be Hardware Banned forever lets hear it for self control.. _____________________

Well, I saw it almost 8 hours later. Checked my stats as someone suggested, and it was viewed something like 900 times. Checked my overall traffic, and it was the highest it's been since I started on XSL.
And, I've made sales of related merchandise that I'd previously never sold before. So, it does have a benefit. The question is, is it enough benefit to justify the cost? It comes down in six more days. At that point, I'll do the math and see if it made me any money, or cost me money. And really, it didn't "cost" me money, since I used L$ that I won in some contest at a club... Figured it was worth a try. _____________________

That sucks. That's what ruins x street is having to scroll through the pages and pages of repeated crap. I have one thing on there, it's had one view, Lord Sullivans slapt shop thing might be a better bet. _____________________
