and if you mean lost of 2200 regions/estates... I'm totally NOT surprised at all. (REASON ONE) LINDEN LABS HAS ANNOUNCED TO OPENSOURCE THEIR SERVER CODE!! (last year, by Phillip Linden at a conference somewhere) proof: many links with the news, and related to it: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=second+life+server+open+source&btnG=Search BUT LOL, AS ALWAYS, LL CHOOSES TO CHANGE THE IDEA ALL TOGETHER, AND GO ANOTHER ROUTE IN THEIR CONVIENCE (MONEY WISE) THIS IS CALLED: COMMERCIAL STALLING, consuming unneeded time, so they keep gaining extra money THE NEW ROUTE: OPENSIMULATOR (completely seperate from LL, and by far not as stable complete as the original code from LL) WHY NOT OPENSOURCING THEIR OWN CODE... IT'S NOT DIFFICULT, just release the code, as they own it, like the viewer. the third party libs (like havoc) can be legally distributed in compiled form. (like many games that uses the lib, do) People are waiting... to run their OWN regions... and are not wanting to invest in steap costs for having regions from LL. simple... (REASON 1,5 and 2) especially with the economic crisis added to it. (and residents don't spent as much as they used too... add those.. costs vs income.. and many descide to quit with their region/estate) |
