So I got one of the TEH Horse Jumping Competition courses. It's a LOT of fun and I've gotten pretty good at it. But how can I meet other horse jumping enthusiasts to find people to compete with? Anyone know of anyone using the course for actual competitions?

I jumped a horse once, but ... well, the furry population here really sticks up for one another. I won't try *that* stunt again.

A couple of people in my household have played with those equestrian jumping courses. There are also courses for pole weaving and other Equestrian skills games.

Some people will do these while riding a horse in SL, like the AKK horse, and some will do it *as* the horse, in a horse avatar. Either is a real challenge, especially when going for timed runs with no faults.

Sorry for the assumptions. The English Horsehouse makes a horse jumping competition course that has a timer, records errors, etc. It's quite challenging and apparently quite addictive. If you want to see one go here:
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Coraith/50/85/22

Ceera Murakami - Your household sounds like you have some very creative people. My land. Coraith of Willowdale, is very new but I hope someday soon to have a troup to challenge other lands. Some light RP fun might be interesting.

In the meantime I'd be happy to find just one other person who I can jump with to see if I'm any good - I don't care if they are a chicken if they can do the course :)

Thanks for posting this. I will have to check that place out. I enjoy riding my AKK horse, but haven't gotten around to actually trying to do anything fancy with him yet.

Elora - that is a link to the course on my sim. You are most welcome to come see it and try your horse, as is anyone else who wants to stop by. Just wanted to clarify so as not to mislead. The course is made and sold by Lollow Hienrichs.

/me waves!

I'm not a chicken, but I love taking my horse out to the various jumping courses and trying my luck. Of course, I'm rotten at it, even though my horse knows no fear and has great heart. :) But I'm game for anything.

I'll drop by your course and check it out! Thanks for the invitation.

Just one word of warning to folks: There's two VERY different groups of people who use this type of jumping course.

One batch are those mentioned, who either ride a wearable horse, like the AKK horses, or put on a horse avatar and be the horse...

The other group are those into "Pony Play" - Pony Girls and Pony Boys, which is an offshoot of the BDSM and Dominance/submission sex kinks. In which a half-naked person in bondage gear runs the course for their Master/Mistress.

If you are seeking the equestrian version and run into the kinky one inadvertantly, it can be startling. But to their credit, most of the Pony Play people don't mind regular horse riders using their courses, as long as you don't get offended by their kinky use of the same course.

Takes all kinds... And in SL, you can probably find many diversities.

I can never jump high enough; keep smacking into the side of the horse. OUCH!

:)

Horse Jumping course moved to new sim
07-28-2008 11:50
To keep the lag low, my residents happy & my horses jumping smoothly I've purchased a new full-prim sim, called Theron, and joined it to Coraith. Theron just has the horse jumping course for now but I will be adding an archery range and other attractions, however, I'm going to keep scripted attractions separate from residential land from now on.

I've had quite a few visitors since posting here so I thought I whould post the new link:
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Theron/137/85/27
Please come by and give it a try. I'd love to hear what you thought of it if you do.

I'm hoping to hold the first acutal public competition some time next week. If anyone has held one of these and has any suggestions I'd really like to hear them!

Ceera - thanks for the heads up about pony-play. You learn about a new kink every day when you play in SL :) I definitely do not want to discriminate against anyone and I figure I'll see a satyr or centaur on the course soon enough. Which would be fun. Hmmm, I'll say as long as it has hoofs and no pink-bits showing it can race. It's a mature sim :)

Faithless - All the more reason to give it a try! I was lousy when I started but now do the course in 44 seconds without errors. It was fun practicing and now I find I move much more gracefully around SL without my horse too.

I have an AKK horse as well and would love to try out the course sometimes. Thanks, for the invite.

I'll have to come by some time, with my AKK horse or one of my other horses. Or maybe run it myself as a G-rated Foxtaur? (Rare form for me)

My suggestion? Probably the best way to be inclusive while keeping it clean is a rule like "No nudity / no naughty bits. Fur is fine, but skin requires clothing." That would allow a lady Centaur who wears a bikini top, or a foxtaur vixen with a bikini top on, or a bipedial or quad horse avatar, or a Gryphon or tiger quad, but would discourage the pony-girls in BDSM gear...

Those into Pony Play will probably prefer to stay on courses where such play is accepted. The few I have met have been quite civil and polite.

Smartest thing I ever did was buy a separate full prim sim for my park. Separating the residential from the attractions keeps everything so nice and smooth. I even shaved a second off my time - now 43 seconds.

Someone come and try to beat it, I don't know if I'm all that and a bag of chips or not! :)

I had some fun jumping on a track when I first got the horse. Thanks, I need to go back . . . if I can remember where that is located.

At the moment I just ride with a group through various Sims Friday nights.

It's just a thought, but if chickens rode horses through sims would they be less likely to be banned?

Sounds fun! I've seen some lovely courses set up (I'm fond of Antiquity's, myself), but never an entire sim for the express purpose of steeplechase. Definitely shall take the ponies out for a trot there when I log on.

Thanks so much. I've spent a lot of time creating a realistic woodland enviornment on these sims. I hope to be adding a third one within the next week or two.

This is a challenging course but several people have stopped by now and all have commented on how quickly you learn when you do a few runs every day. The sim seems to be working really well, even when there are several avs with horses. It really is fun to try and just beat your own time but nothing beats jumping with other riders :)

The sim is called Theron. It's open to the public and you can't miss the horse jumping course if you decide to stop by. Here's the direct TP:
