In a new blog post, http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/05/19/department-of-public-works-progress/, we learned that the LDPW Moles have started work on paving Route 1 on the Heterocera Atoll. Because Linden content often goes under-appreciated on the Mainland, I created a wiki page, http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Qie_Niangao#A_Tour_of_Route_1,* showing the highlights of the route--as judged by me. Anything I missed? [Note: This is probably a limited-time-only wiki entry. But it will be interesting to see how LL explains being more protective of their wiki than of their Mainland.] --------- *That's http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Qie_Niangao#A_Tour_of_Route_1 for the tag-enabled-browser crowd.

From: Qie Niangao What are the hightlights of Route 1? If it's anything like Route 1 here in Jersey, potholes and seedy Motels.

When I lived in the Garden State, the highlights of that Route 1 were diners--which seemed anachronistic, even then. Jersey diners seemed to follow a strange evolutionary path starting as hole-in-the-wall coffee and sandwich joints and ending as grandiose marble and velvet extravaganzas with tablecloths and fiberglass Italian fountains. They all shared one key feature, though: a glass-walled, florescent-lit, slowly-spinning dessert cabinet on a walnut laminate pedestal.
I think it's evident from my wiki tour that the spirit of the magically-bright desert cabinet lives on in Route 1 of Heterocera.
(Okay, I admit: this is a shameless bump of my own relatively OT thread. I promise to STFU about it henceforth.)

A truly awesome display of the roadside art that will grace the travelers of Rt 1 as it becomes a 2 Lane, then 4 Lane and finally 8 Lane mega highway that will allow everyone to buzz right by them in comfort and blissful oblivion.
