Camera bug - workaround?

Hi - first post here - nice to be part of the forums. I've been in SL for about 5 months now, and use it for hours each day without fail.

My first question:

Most people I ask in-world are aware of a bug that crops up sometimes when you're using the camera to look around. For no reason, when you return to normal view, the default cam is now high in the air behind you, making life difficult. This seems to persist until you relog, which is a pain.

I'm assuming that this is a known bug ... but is there a way of getting the default cam back to normal without relogging?

Piggy-back question: when you are using the cam to look around, is there a way of getting the cam back on your avi, other than by moving the avi?

Second question: press Esc a couple of times.

As the previous poster replied, using the escape button will work. If not you can go to the top menu and scroll down to "reset view".

Thanks - I'll give those a try. I should have thought of Esc!

I've never heard of that bug (nor seen it in a year and a half), but scripted objects can affect the camera, are you sure you don't have a tool or attachment that is changing it?

OTOH, I didn't like staring in front of my feet and not being able to see walls ahead of me, so went into the Debug Settings (from explanations on this forum) and changed the height and angle of my camera to look more ahead all the time. ;)

Oh, but now that I think about it, maybe it needed a relog to take affect? I don't remember, was a year ago when I changed it and have never looked back! ;) I was hoping you could do that to restore your camera when it got borked without relogging though...

But it doesn't sound like a bug, but more likely something you are wearing, I know my MultiGadget has a "builders cam" mode I've never tried, but does something like you describe. Since you say others have the problem, did you all get a similar attachment that you wear all the time?

PS: Even if you use Esc to return your camera to you, your AV will turn to face the same direction as your cam was rotated...

I have seen the bug you mentioned first. This usually happens in laggy zones where I am also changing focus alot. IIRC, I moved the camera close to my AV and set focus (Atl-click)on me. Then hit Esc a few times. I don't recall ever having it follow me across sim teleports tho, so no need to log out.

It happens occasionally. Going in and out of mouse look fixes it.

Thanks - the first problem isn't just me and the people I know, then!

It's nothing to do with attachments, either, as far as I can tell - apart from clothes, which I usually only change every day or so, the only other attachments (prim hair, a remote-controlled collar, XCite, MystiTool and Rendezvous) are pretty much permanently on. And I've also had the problem with an alt who has none of those attachments.

Oh, and my SL partner has the same problem from time to time, and she doesn't wear any attachments normally other than clothing and hair.

I hadn't thought of Alt+Click or mouselook - next time it happens, I'll try them and see if they make SL usable again without relogging. They sound promising.
