Hard Drive Disaster - loss of stored sl snapshots

Last week everything was lost on my hard drive. The worst thing is that I had 900 snapshots taken in sl since I started which have all gone...hard drive recovery software that I tried was hopeless.

I am wondering though if by any chance snaps that I download to my hard drive may be stored in Lindens somewhere as they wind their way to me?

Im pretty much resigned to having lost my pics but if anyone has any ideas ?

Thanks.

I doubt they can do anything about it, since this is a client side saving process - it never goes up to the server. Have you tried recovery programs for your harddrive? It is amazing what can be done even to drives that have been wiped three times with shredder programs. Or, is you have the money to spend, try a professional data recovery firm. They can sometimes recover drives that have been drowned or driven over. Saw a report about that, pretty damn amazing.

I tried a couple of free programmes problem is Ive had to reinstall my os which probably didnt help...

the lesson to be learned from my mistake of course is if you have sl snaps or anything else you like on hard drive make copies.

Im sure I cant be the only person who lost everything for the sake of a few minutes putting stuff onto disc...

:(

Nope, snapshots taken directly to disk are not saved in your SL inventory, that's why you don't get charged the 10L. Sorry...

Look up "SpinRight". By security expert Steve Gibson. That will recover all! Unless you fixed your drive with a hammer.

I wondered if my downloaded snaps might just pass through some sytem of lindens and get stored there..I didnt think they would be just had my fingers crossed that it might have been a remote possibility...

Having a look at the site...Im a bit wary at paying so much in case it doesnt work though..it looks interesting thanks for the tip.

I havent fixed my hard drive with a hammer - just done umpteen formats on it trying to get it to work...

I highly recommend checking out GetDataBack. I've used it to reclaim the data off of hosed drives several times and it works great. If the disk will still spin up there's a good chance you can get your stuff off of it.

Another thing to do is to send pictures to Snapzilla, and use Snapzilla's "also send to Flickr" function, thus giving you two distinct copies on the web. Snapzilla has the convenient "produce a 512 pixel wide version" for posting pictures in these forums without upsetting the page formatting.

I recommend Getdataback as well! My brother's hard drive crashed in a bad way and we tried a few programs that didn't work but Getdataback did! It took a full week for it to scan the drive because it was really messed up. My other friend had accidentally formatted or partitioned or did something to his drive. I recommended he use getdataback and he said it took him only a few hours to recover his information. I guess it depends on the severity. Scanning your drive is free and you will see the lost files it has recovered BUT you can't actually recover them until you buy the product.

I have used Getdataback too, and it recovered everything off a crashed hard drive. You can download and try it free - if it finds what you want to recover, you then need to buy a license, to actually recover it. You have to run it from a working PC, with your crashed drive as a second drive - it will then recover to your working drive.

Not the only one by a long chalk. Good luck with GetDataBack and thanks for the 'nudge' to backup!
