It's true.

Technical issues to consider include the fact that I'm at work, and that I can't install SL on this laptop because it sucks.

Can someone help me out?

You don't need to be helped out. You can't get in. You need to be helped in.

I suggest getting a different job, one at which employees are encouraged, or even required, to use virtual worlds at work.

It should pay enough to buy a new super-powered laptop, and for a high-speed wireless internet service.

Hope that helps you. In.

That's actually a very good point. I hadn't considered that.

Well, but is that really fair? Honestly, how can Linden Lab seriously state they're working toward the "best possible customer experience" if their paying customers can't even get in? I'm a PREMIUM member for crying out loud. I deserve better than this. All LL cares about is creating fancy features and standards that at least halfway approach the standards modern games have set. That's fine, but there's absolutely no excuse why they can't make their ultra-realistic graphics work on my three-year-old work laptop. And don't insult me by talking about "hardware limitations" - that's bull! My laptop displays real-life photos just fine, with no loss of quality! There's no reason an image that's NOT EVEN REAL LIFE can't look just as good on my pathetic integrated notebook graphics thingy! You can do ANYTHING on computers these days, and I just know that if LL REALLY cared, they would be able to make mine work! I HATE LL!!!! HATE, with a hate that is hatey! HATE!

*starts rocking, scratching his arms and neck* ....must get inworld...must get.....get inworld....must.....Second Liiiiife.....must......

No one at Linden Lab has ever offered to get a prescription filled for me when I'm sick. That's a litmus test for caring. Clearly they are a heartless bunch, each and every one of 'em.

Why should they care? They work in a office with hot and cold running caviar, for gosh sake. They have to wear sunglasses inside at work to keep from being blinded by the reflections scintillating off their diamond encrusted desks. Except for the bigwigs; their desks aren't just encrusted with diamonds but are actually crafted from single crystals of pure diamond.

The street Linden Lab is on is made of gold and platinum. Linden staff are immortal, as young or old as they want to be, always in good health, forever. Lindens can heal injuries and raise the dead with a wave of the hand.

So you can just imagine how good their video cards are.

Not the *best* solution, but it does work for those times when you are desperate and need an SL fix. I cannot get to SL or even the forums from work because of firewall issues. Setup a secure remote access to your home pc - I use GoToMyPC.com for this. The performance for SL pretty much sucks, but it does let me get inworld for simple things like IMs and working with inventory and still gives the graphics if I want to try something on while working with inventory. Best thing is it lets me easily get to the forums from work though.

I assume since you post here that you are familiar with sl clients like SLeek, and Ajaxlife.

Darn it, I can't remember any more of them, and Googling for them just lead me to install a different graphical client and I don't even know what's supposed to be different about it.

There's a browser based viewer called MovableLife, maybe? And there's an extension of Sleek, who's name escapes me.

Enough of that technical stuff.

Have you considered stealing one of your co-worker's laptops, or perhaps a customers? Theft works well for governments, perhaps you should take a lesson from them.

I know nothing about any of these names, actually.

I will look them up and learn about them. I get to leave in about an hour. 60 minutes. 3,600 seconds. 3,599....3,598....3,597....

I take it that's the one you recommend?

I'll try it, then.

Seems to be the most widely used. I haven't tried any of them myself, but I see more people recommending/talking about it then any other.

Sleek involves downloading and installing a program, while Ajaxlife runs in a browser, which might be a factor for some folks at their workplace.

The forums are better for real text communication than inworld chat anyway. They have persistent text.
