Saving no-copy items

I'm having a blast decorating my new place, and certainly spending money in the process.
Is there a way to save/backup "no transfer" "no copy" items so that, if anything bizarre happens, I don't lose them?
(I.e., I accidentally pushed a drape outside the window and was unable to get it back - it did not return into my lost and found)

No, there is no way to make a backup of a no-copy item.

use the mini map to find the drape

if it is not deeded to group, and owned by you, it will show up as a lightblue color on the mini map, zoom in on the mini map if you need to, and walk around the area you think you lost it looking for the light blue color

Wow, really? There are, indeed, blue squares around my house and I was wondering what they are. After losing the drape I did go outside but did not see it there.
Didn't know you could zoom in on the blue map, either.
I'll have to check this out tomorrow. Wayyyyy late again here :)

Also, the drape could be buried underground. Use the camera keys to zoom underground. Sometimes it's surprising what kind of stuff is hidden down there. :o

No, there is no way you can protect your investment.
It can all be gone in a split second when the next hiccup in the inventory database/asset server occurs.

You can also use a "Finder" to find your prims on a sim, you should be able to pick up a freebie Finder someplace quite easily.

Or it could be inside a wall.

Some other possibilities for finding a lost item:

If the item is underground, there is a control option under rendering in the Cient menu that allows you to turn off the 'surface patch', making the ground invisible. You can then see and select things that are underground.

There is also a choice in the Client menu that allows you to make a selected item invisible. set that up, and click on walls or other things that you think may have items embedded in the,. the selected wall will vanish temporarily, and the drape inside may then be selected and moved out.

A scanner like Scan Foo can locate objects owned by you, and can locate specific objects by name, or just scripted objects... Costs some L$ to buy, but my Scan Foo gadget is very handy!

you can also open the land menu, go into the 'objects' tab, show all items of a particular user.

Client menu > Rendering > Types > Surface Patch is the location of the checkbox for turning the terrain surface on and off in the client.

Client menu > Rendering > Hide Selected is the location of the checkbox for making what you have selected in edit mode become invisible and unclickable.

The latter is also EXTREMELY handy for making sure you have all the appropriate parts linked when linking together a complex build. For example, if you have a 600 prim house that you are linking into three sections, and you think you have it all, use that mode and shift-click on each of the three sections. If you have any stray unlinked prims, they will remain visible.
