Hello,
Just wondering about limitations on avatar profiles. I know that anything about being under 18 will get you banned. What about nudity? If someone has a nude picture of themselves up on their avavtar's profile, is that OK? I've been seeing it around. What about cursewords and sexual "chit chat"?
Thanks!

I believe profiles are supposed to be PG, but not everyone adheres to that.

Anything not PG (e.g. nudity) in profiles may get you a request from LL to remove the mature stuff. It happened, but infrequently. Most likely on request after someone issued an AR .... eventually

Not exactly, and this is one of the sources of confusion that sometimes creates problems. It's ok to say something like "I roleplay a 10 year old". As long as it's clear that the person is over 18 in RL, comments about the (roleplaying) age of the avatar under 18 are ok. Often people will put the "over 18" statement on the 1st Life tab, and do the 2nd life profile tab entirely in character. This then confuses other people who take that tab literally.

Well, any guys with 'In real life I am sitting here naked' on their first tab needn't bother chatting to me, lol

As long as it's clear that the person is over 18 in RL, comments about the (roleplaying) age of the avatar under 18 are ok. As far as I know, you can't ever claim that you or your avatar are anything but 18+. You're free to roleplay a 10 year old, as long as you don't ever say "I'm 10 years old". Ageplay policy notecard: "Any account asserting an age that does not meet Second Life's minimum age of eligibility will be closed." Linden quote (context is a child avie that listed her RP'ing age on her profile): "I would remove any references to an avatar being underage. No one should be able to use about land, search, profile, classifieds etc etc and make a determiniation of an underage status or a reference to such" (Edited to add that those quotes date back to March 2007 so you might want to check if they still apply, but otherwise I wouldn't assume it's "safe"

It's kind of hard to roleplay a 10 year old without saying that. I wouldn't put too much weight on early announcements that weren't validated in subsequent blog posts. In particular, they've said time and again since then that it's ok to have child avs. It makes no sense to have a policy that says "it's ok to have a child av as long as you never admit that the av is a child."

I'm more than 18 and play a 10yo for fun, and I always replied "i'm 10" There is nothing illegal as long as the "child avt" is over 18 in real.

In the light of recent blog, TOS, CS and legal proceedings I would add the proviso that said "comments about the (roleplaying) age of the avatar" are strictly of a non-sexual content. The subject of nudity is an interesting one. With the reduced resolution of profile snapshots I can't imagine there being much point in it. In the textual content, most profiles I've seen only outline attitudes and outlook, never technical pornography in any case. I think someone would have to blatantly incite protest to generate it with a profile.

Please note, you CAN roleplay without sexplay. Roleplay does not automatically equal sexplay. You can play a 10yo kid in a wildwest RP sim without having anything to do with sex.

There is nothing illegal as long as the "child avt" is over 18 in real. The current policy does open you up to AR activity, but you can get out of it if you go to the trouble of proving your real age to LL. This same policy seems to keep real underage people more or less safe from ARs if they lie about it :/ https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=3945From: bilbo99 Emu The subject of nudity is an interesting one. With the reduced resolution of profile snapshots I can't imagine there being much point in it. The profile images in the new search are larger (256 x 192), big enough to make it worth checking that there is nothing in there that will cause AR hassles.

Guys,
I think some of you are confused. It is ILLEGAL in SL to partake in "sexual ageplay" or any sexual act with an avatar that looks or is said to be under the age of 18, EVEN IF THE PERSON PLAYING THE AVATAR IS OVER 18 IN REAL LIFE.
It has been made illegal to partake in "virtual sexual ageplay with a minor EVEN if the person behind the avatar is 18" in countries like Germany. You can go to JAIL for it. And so, LL has made the practice bannable in SL.
Note again: Even if the person behind the avatar is over 18 in REAL LIFE if their avatar looks or is said to be under the age of 18 and partakes in SEXUAL AGE PLAY or virtual sex in any fashion, it will get you banned or even thrown in JAIL in some countries, where it is illegal to create an image (even a cartoon image) showing underage sexual acts, like in Germany.
Now, simply playing a young avatar as a kid in the "wild west sim" may be ok, but you still have to watch out. I've heard stories of people playing such avatars getting banned. All it would take is a slip of the keyboard "ouch daddy, that hurt" and a quick AR by someone mean, and poof.
But, my main question wasn't about avatar ages, but rather CAN YOU PLACE REAL LIFE NUDE PICS OF YOURSELF ON YOUR AVATAR PROFILE?
Thanks all!

From: Pan Fan But, my main question wasn't about avatar ages, but rather CAN YOU PLACE REAL LIFE NUDE PICS OF YOURSELF ON YOUR AVATAR PROFILE? Only if they're still PG.. In other words: probably not. I guess you could come up with some poses/angles that made nekkid photos PG but, for the most part, it's probably against ToS.

NO! The profiles have to be PG.. and if you see anything that isn't, you're supposed to AR it. I don't bother much, unless it's so offensive that even I have to say, "Whoa!"

There are ample opportunities in-world for residents to wander around naked, attend naked events or display nude avi pictures. No harm in that but I really see no reason why, with all those opportunities for free expression, anyone would want to have a nude pic in their profile, especially as it's not permitted.
This reminds me of one very peculiar event once. I was at a club when a bald, fat guy turned up on the dancefloor wearing only a tiny red thong. He proceeded to put a cube on his head which displayed RL photos, presumably of himself, looking very much like the avi and wearing..... wait for it.......a tiny red thong!! Aaaarrrgghhh!!!!

Much better resolution than saving inside SL and pasting to profile.

From: Crystal Falcon /me giggles, I wonder if profiles with AV nudity say "I am clothed in RL" on their 1st life tab? The one I saw was obviously not. Yes it was a guy. I blushed and told him I was looking at the wall, then turned around and ran.
