My twilight zone of SL!

I thought I'd share my previous and present experiences of being "Ghosted/Stuck" It's annoyingly and regrettably my third experience of the apparently unfathomable phenomena of "ghosting" all in the last six weeks.
I’m currently waiting for support to remove my presence from its current ghosted state, almost day five now of the irritating "Login Failed. The system is logging you out right now... your account will not be available until...blah, blah, blah...” message! And since I filed the latest support ticket giving the exact slurl, I'm not holding my breath (this time) as it took almost a week to resolve the first time it occurred. I followed the advice given by support to the letter, after my second "ghosting" thinking my AO was causing the issue (although I've used the same one for over a year now without any problems and it’s the only HUD I use on a daily basis) "In the case that this is happening to you repeatedly, please remove all attachments from your avatar including HUDs. (Right click on your AV then click Take Off > Detach All) System clothes do not affect this as they can not be scripted. You may also find that you become 'ghosted' more often when you use a wireless connection to Second Life. We would recommend a cable/wired connection where possible. Finally, before logging in, please clear/delete your Second Life cache, and connect to a different region. I've tried to make sense of my experiences in the twilight zone of SL, sadly to no avail as all three happened at different locations while wearing completely different outfits, no scripts or HUD's except for my AO and the latest event using an alternate one of those! The only common denominator is that I had been creating high prim footwear on each of those days, though not actually wearing them at the time I logged out (first occurrence happened after a TP crash, two and three were planned log outs) So I’m left scratching my head, thinking my alt would have surely noticed a sim restart when support informed me one had taken place (it took four restarts according to support?!?) also wondering why sim owners only reply to my alts request to restart the sim after my presence is already cleared?!? (Is it a big deal to restart a sim?) And making promises to myself to definitely back-up everything from my main account to at least one alt account............ When I eventually manage to login that is!! Marie A shadow of her former self! |

A few weeks ago, I noticed someone had been floating in the air near my new shop on Zindra for the last 24 hours, so I IM'd her to see what the problem was and, not my great surprise, found she was offline.
An hour or so later, she replied, saying "oh God, have I ghosted again?". She'd apparently crashed while trying to cross a sim boundary and hadn't bothered to log back in till the next day, at her home destination, which she did with no problems. I said I'd heard that such ghosts could be exorcised, as it were, by coming back to the sim where they were, and she replied she'd heard that, too, but last time she tried it she crashed, so she'd leave it till the ghost vanished of its own accord, which it did after a few minutes. As to restarting sims, it's not a big deal except that it means everyone has to leave the sim for a few minutes, so I don't like to do it when places are busy. |
