Is it possible to cut and paste text from a word processor into a notecard inworld?

I think the last time I tried, it wouldn't paste into the notecard. Do I have to convert it into some other type of text? I was using Word Perfect, also tried taking it from an email I created in AOL and lifting it from there and that didn't work either.

/me really needs to create a long winded note and doesn't have the time to do it with SL running *sigh*

I can use TextEdit on a Mac to post directly into a notecard, however I have had problems doing this before. My work round was to post into chat, open history, copy & paste into the notecard.

I cut and paste all the time but you have to use the keyboard shortcuts to do it Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V since there are no menu options provided for it.

I have always just used the right click "copy" outside of SL and inside SL use Control V" to paste it.

Control C is the copy function in SL.

Ok well, I'll try again I guess.

Is there a limit to how much you can type into the notecard?

It's VERY long...(I may "exasperate" someone...but I'll take my chances)

Word Perfect, have you saved the document just as a straight forward text file? it could be formatting in the document thats causing you a problem

That might be it Dekka, I'll try and save it as a generic text file, thanks!

I do it straight from Word, using the standard shortcuts. Never had a problem, no matter how long the text.

There was a recent thread started by someone who couldn't paste anything into a notecard, no matter what he did. Seems an odd sort of bug.

If Word keeps failing, try pasting into Notepad, then copying that.

I do ctrl C/ctrl V straight from Word on a PC, no issues.

Notecards can be very long. I believe I saw a posting from someone who said she put 15 pages of text in one.

Elora, it ought to work. I've cut 'n pasted some VERY long text passages between several types of word processor and SL Notecards.

I usually use the CTRL+C/CTRL+V shortcuts, but the Edit menu commands should also work.

If it keeps giving you problems, try pasting your text into Notepad or Wordpad first, and saving the document as a TXT or RTF file.

In any case, Notecards don't support special type features, such as boldface, underline, or italics, and I think they're also limited to SL's font. But all of that *should* simply be stripped when you cut and paste.

Thanks for all the tips. I saved it as an RTF, I'm going to try that first. Will try and sneak into SL later on when my boss leaves for lunch :-) It's only about 1 page of text, so I'm certainly not taxing the notecard!

I usually use only keyboard shortcuts if I want any text in SL- ctrl-a to choose all the text in a given document, ctrl-c to copy and ctrl-v to paste. These are not SL specific, but work (on a PC at east! ;) ) everywhere. It's also useful when sending postcards to the same person repeatedly...I *hate* typing the address ten times in a row.... :D
I've also done it with Word documents, which are notoriously bloated and touchy, and even with longer texts it worked fine.

Thanks for this one, (and you too Lindal) it worked perfectly :)

That note sure did look bigger once it was in the notecard though. Wow.
