Full Bright and Local Lights too Bright

I just installed a Radeon X1550 and it's working okay except my local lights and full brights are WAY too bright. I've even turned off local lights and disabled vertex shading and it doesn't help. Any suggestions for what settings I should tweak to see objects set as full bright or as local lights? They're so bright I can't see any detail on them. :( Thanks for your help.

Try adjusting the Gamma setting?

Try your monitor's hardware brightness and contrast settings.

/me agrees with Desmond wholeheartedly.

Turn the contrast on your monitor to almost 100%, then turn the brightness down to around 10%. That should be a good starting point. Adjust it from there as needed.

Also, there are Gamma settings for your X1550 in the Catalyst Control Center, and a Gamma settting for the SL viewer in the preferences - Ctrl+P, in the Adv. Graphics tab (make sure its set to zero).

When you get it looking OK, don't forget to turn on your Vertex Shaders and local lights.

Also, one mistake lots of people make with local lights is to set the numbers for that light to a value taht is way too high, giving an extremely garish effect. If local lights still look harsh even after full bright looks ok, that's the problem.

It would be nice though, if the option Bright had some gradations (is that the right English word?). Especially for white textures I like to set the bright option or it will look greyish. But sometimes it gets too bright. Is there an in between? I don't believe so. Or should I apply a seperate texture when I wnt to set the Bright option?
