profile picture size?

I know i have seen a post about this in the forums somewhere, but i cant find it anywhere...

can anybpody please tell me the best size to upload a profile picture so it doesnt look squashged please?

since nobody has answered I would say that the profile dimensions are more square so try uploading a square versus a 4:3 ratio. But don't blame me please if I am wrong and you blow L$10.

I use 512x384

The aspect ratio of the profile picture is 1.33:1.

Armed with that information, and an understanding of what an aspect ratio is, you can easily crop any photo to a pixel size that will be a perfect fit.

Oh, BTW, Brash Zenovka's 512x384 is indeed a 1.33:1 aspect ratio but if you do the math you will discover an endless list of other possibilities too.

As Amras said - but it's interesting that the various pictures in the profile (front page, picks, classified, first life) are all different ratios - and for no good reason that I can see - what's that about then LL? I'm not in world so I can't specify at the moment...

Indeed that's true and I was going to open that can or worms in my reply Cat--but decided not to. It's the damnedest mess I've ever seen from a company that caters to amateurs and should know better.

Yes it's best the height of the image is slightly less in scale as the width since the profile uses a rectangular frame for the image. Something like mentioned above would do fine.

I think 512x384 gets squished to 512x256 on upload- it's ok, it doesn't change the picture except you may want to resize it like that yourself anyway so you get a better result.

I now upload mine as 256x256. It takes less time to load.

Don't we get better results from binary "round" numbers, 512, 256, 128, etc.?

On my viewer the actual size is about 178x133 (3x4 or 1:1.33 like others have said) so I resized it to 256x128 and it's sharp/clear/quick and drew compliments. (Lighting and close-up help too... )
