I did a quick search of both Dell.com and BestBuy.com. I did a customize on the Dell site but I don't really know what you would be interested in but I upgraded the customized XPS 9000 series base model to include and iNvidia 220 GT graphics card (the base model has intergrated), and a 20" LCD monitor..........the price came out to be just under $1300 which I thought was rather steep for a basically off the shelf machine. I couldn't copy/past the configured page since it is a secure site..........sorry that I can't point your there.

The BestBuy site has an equally good computer (also a Dell, since you seem to be interested in those) on sale right now. It includes a monitor and printer. If you don't need one or both of those you can ask to not to include in the package........BestBuy probably will discount the total price for you if you do that (but, it is a package deal and the discount may not be substaintial).

Take a look. I copied the page with the specs tab but you can look at the overview too.

That computer should run SL quite well for you. It's a little expensive for my tastes. You can find a better deal at Newegg.com and TigerDirect.com. It's up to you. Hope it helps you.

Can you provide a budget? The ATI cards are not particularly good for SL, and the 3450 card is not terribly powerful. I would look for Nvidia as a preferred graphics option, and a 9800 GT or better card. I can recommend some specific systems if you can indicate what you want it to do aside from SL, and how much you are willing to spend.

I have had mostly positive experiences with Dell, but I would strongly recommend that you avoid Best Buy for computer purchases. I do know a few knowledgeable Best Buy employees, but they are the exception. You will get much better warranty service buying directly from Dell.
