Firstly I just won my 512 land auction today. If i stand on my land though and fly straight up to approx. 870M, i run smack into a huge globe. I inspect it but there's no owner or creator name, but there's a small furnished house inside it.

Strange thing is my land shows no prims on my parcel (other than mine). Clearly though there's a very large object within the borders of my plot. Report is my plan, but my question is how is it there an object yet no prims listed belonging to another owner.

A prim isn't considered "on" your land unless its center (to simplify a bit, some cut and manipulated prims aren't "centered" on their apparent centers) is on your land. So big prims can certainly overlap a whole bunch yet not register in your land tools.

Similarly, linked groups of prims can overlap and not register if the "root prim" is located on neighboring land. The root prim can easily be way off on one edge, making the whole object appear to be centered on your land.

All that said, huge prims that overlap neighboring land are widely recognized as improper and you could file an abuse report. Or, perhaps better, speak to the object's owner and inform them of your concerns and see what happens before taking other action.

I just did speak to the object owner and was basically told to go to hell, after being pretty polite about it.

"Parcel Encroachment" is the category you want.

If you can hover up there within view at the time you click "Help" then "Report Abuse", and check the proper box on the window that will open, a snapshot of the skybox will be included in your report.

One thing to consider: it's easy to lose track of the border of your parcel when you're at a high altitude. I would suggest rezzing a frame (I'll send you one now) on the ground---fit it to the border. Then open Edit on the frame and type the height of the skybox into the Z space of Position (this is on the Object tab). Then fly up and confirm that the skybox really is on your parcel (the frame will have gone straight up and will show the airspace that belongs to you.

this is exactly what i did pons, thanks for the suggestion though, i actually wanted nothing on the ground. I just build a frame within the land border precisely and shot it straight up the "Z" axis.

That will make the snapshot in your Abuse Report (if you include one) that much more dramatic---and 'dramatic' sometimes gets a faster response from the Lindens. ^_^

not only that, the object owner may move it due to the fact there's now a wall going through their (illegally placed) skybox.
a wall and whatever other kind of fun things you find to fill it with...

On your land permissions, try turning off "object entry". If prims are overhanging sometimes this will remove them. It will prevent new entry from objects not your own as well.
