Need more information; getting any error messages, anything telling you that something is going on? Or message saying you've been logged out? Screen go black or freeze? Whole computer crash, have to reboot or only SL crashes?

Tell us about your machine;

Model, memory, free space on hard drive, graphics card, processor.

Try deleting your install of SL, and the folder with the cache, and re-downloading / reinstalling.

Try an alternative viewer.

Try logging into home rather than last location, or last location rather than home.

It might also help to list the system specs for your computer.

Go here:

C:\Users\[YOUR PC LOGIN NAME]\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife

And delete -EVERYTHING-

Try installing Snowglobe and see if you can get in with that:

Hi, Lana sorry you're having so many problems. But, no, it is not terribly unusual for new users to have problems like this.

Please start up SL and go to the top menu bar, and choose Help, and then About. You'll see a dialog box that has information about your PC for everything that SL cares about. Please cut that portion of the dialog out and paste it here.

Also, please tell us about the network you're on, since that can cause this problem. Are you using wireless? Are you using broadband of your own, or is it shared (like at a school, or company, or a family with someone who listens to streaming music or plays WOW?).
