Put in a support ticket - chances are, the island was closed and they can open it to let you get your things back.

Have you tried looking under the water?

It sounds like the water level has changed, whether bug or intentional I don't know

Im really sorry to hear this happened to you...did you rent land from a private individual? It might be that they just relinquished the land and didnt pay tier?

Whatever has happened....heres a big {{{{{hug}}}}} - I hope you get it sorted out

there was something that happened to the grid yesterday
02-26-2008 08:47
Well, last night when I got home from work, the Rasta Island where my apartment is, was destroyed...It took the Sim owner and his staff almost all day yesterday to rebuild it to close to what it was, yet many of the residents there came home to empty houses and apartments...I actually thought I had been evicted until I spoke to the Sim owner...there was something that happened to the grid yesterday (we think) and it effected several Sims.

This did happen to my partner. He logged on to find his and all of the surrounding houses gone as well. He also lost most of his best stuff and unfortunately...forever.

I'm curious - is the sim on a Texas server or a SF one?

While you're there, do Help->About Second Life and look for the sim IP address towards the top. Do a tracert on that address to see where the server is located..

Hi LatinAngel, welcome to the forums, sorry the occasion for your coming here is so icky!

I can think of two causes:

1. Your island owner defaulted on payments to LL, and LL took down the island. They do not return any objects when they do this. I would IM whoever you rent from ... if it turns out your landlord is no longer are in SL, you can assume they defaulted. In cases of default, LL has been known to bring up the island again for a few hours so residents can retrieve their stuff. File a "Region Down" support ticket if the island is truly not there at all, requesting that the island be brought up again briefly for the tenants. "Region Down" tickets can be filed by both Basic and Premium members.

2. Your island got caught in the "Massive Object Loss" that struck some regions this last weekend: http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/02/23/region-data-corruption-loss-problem/

At the bottom of the post, it says to contact support about this as well.

Good luck!
.

I find this odd, when a sim owner defaults and the sim is taken down nothing is returned. Seems to me that would be the logical course of action by LL. As obviously they are going to get flooded with support tkts from renters who had items there.

That's okay. They seem to like making more work for themselves.

Probably depends on how many defaults end up making good and having their island brought back onto the grid. If more-than-not end up getting their island back, the way LL is handling it now is probably best.

It's not necessarily a default. Last year the dreamland sim where I then lived disappeared one day. I sat at the edge of the next-door sim looking at empty water where my home and land had been 30 minutes earlier. I contacted the owners agents, who contacted LL, and in abut 40 minutes it was all back in place.

The idea is that the sim owner still has a chance to make good on the payment owed, and then all can be brought back on line exactly as it was, instead of tearing the sim to shreds, just because the sim owner's credit card was overdrawn.

That happened to me once too - there was a network problem that affected SL residents in Europe and although the sim was up and running, I couldn't see it.

If I recall, after 30 days of past due payment your account is closed closed correct? At that point do all items get returned to non-defaulting owners? If thats the case then I agree and can see the point. Mistakes can certainly happen where a payment does not go though or you are running short some month.

The Lindens should try this routinely, then maybe people would be grateful for mere lag, missing items, hair up the butt, etc.. ;)

Actually, they sorta already do.. It was mentioned in Meta Linden's office hour a week or so ago.

The bots named "Performance Tester" (and Performance1 Tester, etc) TP around the grid and measure stuff like how long it takes to TP and how long it takes to rez/attach stuff once you're there. LL runs these bots from various places around the RL world so they get decent, actual numbers.

When I read the OP this morning I couldn't help but hear the plaintive tune of the Kate Bush's version of the song "Rocket Man" in my mind.......something about the meter of her paragraph

.......Think the Linnn- dens will take a long, long time?.....

The island where I had my home
has disappeared,
my home is gone as well.
None of the objects I had,
have been returned,
I miss it all, I miss my Second Life.
It's lonely out in space,
Without a sim

Chorus:

Think the Linnn- dens will take a long, long time?
To get my stuff back, it's really a crime,
they were gifts from all my friends,
if someone knows about this could you
message me? I need to get this figured out.
Oh no no no no. I'm a Simless avatarrrrrrr.

This empty spot's no place to raise your kids
In fact it's cold as hell
And there's no one there to raise them if you did
Simlesssssss avatar,
teleporting to an empty zone......
Simless avatar,
burning up my fuse up here alone.......
Oh no no no no. im a Simless avatarrrrrrr.

Think the Linnn- dens will take a long, long time?
To get my stuff back, it's really a crime,

Thanks to the recomendations that Nika Talaj gave me, i filled a report with the Lindens and i got them to put the island back for 24 hours, i already retrieved all my stuff and my keepsakes, sigh, it was hard for me to do it, i had a lot of memories in that place, hehehe, funny how the lines between rl and sl can become blurred.
Anyway thanks for all the support and recomendations and Rebeca, i loved the song, great job.
