Where is my house?

I have recently began renting some land. I put a small house on it as it was all I needed. I've only had it for about a day and the last time I went there my house was gone. After replacing it the house suddenly disapeared while I was standing RIGHT IN IT.

I do take my alt account in there sometimes. I have made it friends with my main account and there doesn't seem to be any problems with my alt doing anything in the house.

Why is my property fail

Check your inventory's lost and found folder, there is a good chance that is where it landed.

For most rentals, you need to join the group that owns the land, _and_ make that the active group when you rez things. On typical rental land your stuff will get autoreturned if you skip those steps.

If you do have your group ducks all in a row and things are still being returned, it's time to chat with the people you rented from and see if they can fix it.

Ditto ... what Viktoria said.

It probably got auto-returned. Make sure you're wearing the right group tag for the land when you rez so that your prims will take on that group.

We've all made that mistake before.

Hell, I have owned my own land for over a year and still sometimes forget to activate my tag before rezzing...

I have a little scripted prim that I have rezzed in my house that sends me "You are not wearing the correct group tag to rez objects in this sim" messages every time I either rez or change groups.

I don't think this is the same one I have - I'm not in-world atm - but it's close.

I have seen a few rentals like that. But this one said nothing about a group.

In my case about 10,000 times.

Is there any chance that it overlapped onto your neighbor's land? If the neighbor has auto return then that would make it go back to your L&F folder. If you find it, what I do when squeezing a house onto a small parcel is to turn on "about land" and see the borders, then go rez a small square in each corner of the parcel so I know where the property lines are. What an awesome idea. I may have to get one of those as I never seem to remember to activate the right group.

This was just a tiny cabin. Would that be small enough to put on a 512?

Those 512 plots are narrow. It might be turned the wrong direction and thus overlap a neighbor's parcel, or if it is highly detailed, it may be too many prims for the parcel.

We don't have to speculate about this. On the parcel, About Land / Objects / "Autoreturn other resident's objects..." set to anything but 0 will cause the described behavior.

(FWIW, if I were renting land over which I couldn't control the parcel settings myself, I would *only* consider land with autoreturn set. There just is no acceptable substitute.)

another good method to do. once you drop your house, right click on land and hit select land to make sure its within the yellow boundaries of your property.

The problem with that is that if the neighbor has autoreturn set and you get distracted the house can get zapped while you're rearranging it to stay within your property. However, if you do have it in the boundaries that's how you would confirm it. Cheers, Jackie.

I always turn View Property Lines on (under the View menu) before I rez anything a bit large. Additionally, if you already have the Build window open, whatever you rez is automatically selected and makes it easier for you to do quick adjustments. One final safeguard is if I am not sure of the size of something - I try to rez it in the very center of the parcel.

Hey, Lil, I never noticed that option. I always turned on the yellow boundary from a right click on the land, which means the lines go away as soon as I select anything else. Thanks! Duh, Jackie
