I recently tiered down by selling a plot of land from $25.00 a month to $15.00. I changed my tier from $25 to $15 on the Land Use Fees page, but my account page still says $25.00 a month. The Land Use Fees page says I can still buy 160m before my tier goes up again. Is there something else I need to do to lower my monthly tier fees?

Charges are always for the previous month -- if your billing date is the 15th, on Jan 15th you will be billed for the HIGHEST amount that you owned from Dec 15th to Jan 15th. So the new tier will not take effect until the next billing period.

If your land is owned by a group (e.g. by you and an alt of yours), you need to reset your donated tier on the group land too, I think. Not totally sure, but perhaps someone else will clarify.

If you contributed any land to a group, you must recover that manually in the group info box (land and $L tab) inworld. LL will continue to charge for the contributed tier even though the group no longer is using the total amount of the contribution. Unused group tier is labeled as land available.

although this is technically true, i do not suggest doing this. if you do this you will be allowed to burn through donation tier without any warning whatsoever that you are moving up in the brackets.
The selected tier doesn't change down, but you wonlt be charged at that level as long as you don't dip into it during the month. You can set the level to a full sim on your account page but you will still only be charged for what you've had in the month. |

You can set the level to a full sim on your account page but you will still only be charged for what you've had in the month. This is only true if you completely control the group's land with a single avatar, and therefore can be sure your total usage has dropped. If you are contributing to a group you do not control your contribution will likely be fully billed, even if the group isn't using all its contributed land. Even if all the land-contributing avatars are yours. _____________________

If you are contributing to a group you do not control your contribution will likely be fully billed, even if the group isn't using all its contributed land. Even if all the land-contributing avatars are yours. All contributed tier is considered used, even if no land has been purchased. If you contribute 512 to a group and they don't buy enough land to use up your contribution, that 512 still counts as used tier. _____________________

After reviewing my transactions for the past month, I discovered that my bill date is the 17th of the month and I sold the land on the 28th. My tier should go down after the 17th of this month.
Thanks everyone for your responses! _____________________

Personally having been in a position where I owned land for one day in the period for a higher tier rate and being charged for a full month (and I know there are people who own land for less time than that) theres an argument for making payments weekly....

I accidentally went over tier by 16 square meters once, because I forgot to select "buy for group" and was being hassled by the kids so I didn't catch it while I was clicking through before heading out to dinner.
I contacted support and they were happy to give me a one time rollback of my tier. And I've made damn sure there hasn't been a repeat. _____________________

I've done the same thing and had the same response from LL's support staff. Also made damn sure I watch what I am doing and track tier and parcel impact from then on so there is no repeat. |
