I've been having a couple of problems/bugs/I don't know with the last couple of RC's. I'm not sure if anyone gets these, so that's why I'm asking.
My first problem has been that over the last 3 or 4 RC's that my computer will go super ridiculously slow and then I have to restart it via the CPU. This happens every day and sometimes 2 or 3 times a day. When I restart it, it says that it has to do a disk check due to files not being for the system (NTFS). Turns out it's files from downloading Second Life. They are called logout_looker and I$480 (or something like that). It takes about 5 minutes to go through the process of finding the files and deleting them. I don't have to reinstall it when it starts up again. I've tried and reinstalling it anyway and seeing if that helps, but it doesn't.
Also, within the last week when I go to start SL, an icon shows up saying that it's downloading updates. It takes about 2 minutes just to get SL to show up so that I can log in. Thing is I'm not able to click on it to see what it's updating. I assume it has to do something with SL due to it only happening when I go to log in to it.
I've been on SL since February of last year and never has a problem with anything like this up until the new RC's have been put out.
Thanks for any help, Gay Flatley

I have never seen a downloading updates icon for SL. I don't think they have that. To update the RC you have to download the installer and run it (as far as I know). I have seen updaters running on my computer though but those are for Windows or for my antivirus which updates almost every day. While downloading they slow down SL quite a bit. I had to set them to ask permission before they run.

I have no problems at all with the RC, apart from the usual bugs. Also no file called logout_looker on my pc.
You did not accidentally installed a version for Mac or Linux while you're on PC or so?
I suggest you first uninstall and completely remove the RC from your computer. Make sure that there is nothing left on your system; delete the folder etc id that is still there after the uninstall.
Then clean your registry - be careful, make a backup first so that you can undo changes. Anything connected to the RC should be removed from the registry. (use CCleaner for instance - free download)
Then re-install.
If you want to do it really good, defrag both disk and registry, but you can do this later too, since this is only normal computer maintenance.
If, after re-install the same thing happens again, check your processes running. (taskmanager - processes). If you are not familiar with these you can copy them in a notecard and drop that on me in world if you don't want to post it here.
Good luck
