I often see in Chat window where text appears eg. "Bill leans over and hugs Joan" but, unlike when I say something in chat, it appears without the "Dyylan:" prefix and quite often it is in a Yellow Font.
How does one do this?
Thanks,
Dyylan.

Type /me before your text
That is the only way I know how to do that. Not sure if it changes the text color. _____________________

/me: The greatest tool for roleplay and expression in Second Life.
Chat normally appears like dialog in a play... Lindal Kidd: Where did you get those shoes? They're fantastic! But if you type /me before your text (and remember to refer to yourself in the third person), you get chat that looks like.... Lindal Kidd kicks your feet out from under you, rips the shoes from your feet, and teleports away cackling madly. _____________________

Oh! Thanks so much Lindal. Can't wait to try this out. Dyylan You will find it to be habit forming- suddenly it even enters regular speech... walk into bosses office while he is on phone and say sotto voce.. /me sneaks in and p=lays papers down... you get the oddest looks ![]() |

You could also do this /me whispers: Hey I'm right behind you.
And then press the shout button. _____________________

"/me" can give a lot of variation, even in a normal chat, let alone roleplaying.
As a side-note, starting with /, it also suppresses the typing animation. If the text is in another color, it is not the player emoting, but an object speaking. Some "huggers" subscribe to the "do both tell and show it" school of thought, rather than the "don't tell it; show it". |

Didn't know it suppresses the typing anim, but then i've turned mine off anyway...
I use /me far too much...but sometimes it can get annoying because gestures usually begin with / so if i mistype and miss the 'me' part out then i suddenly start jumping around being annoying lol. This is also why in the forums you will see a lot of people typing /me.... Its a carry over from inworld, and its easier than typing the whole 'Claire Silverspar runs over and...... blah. ok, now that Im satisfied that i have created a post giving you absolutely no new info... /me turns and skips back to the never ending thread in search of yummy food _____________________

Anything starting with / suppresses the typing animation (and sound).
You'll often see people at concerts starting their normal sentences with /, even without the "me", to avoid the clattering of the keys. The elegant way to do that is actually to type /0, to explicitly select channel 0 (the normal chat channel). That way, the / will not show, and you will simply speak out loud without the typing animation. -And there is a further shortcut: Typing // selects the last channel you talked on, which will typically be the normal chat 0. |

Also if you have an xcite bits and HUD you can emote with them. Fand runs up to **** licking her finger and sticks it in his ear...wet willy. Or you can tell someone to Kiss your "behind"

/me finds it really creepy to see text suddenly just appear when chatting with someone and for that reason prefers to see and hear typing animation
