Try a different viewer.
Try different video drivers - either an updated on or an older one.
Detach all. (in case an attachment or hud is messing with the camera)

Make sure your camera controls aren't inverted. there's an "invert camera controls" checkbox in preferences.

Did you try the Beta grid viewer, the Firstlook Windlight Viewer, the regular viewer, and the Release Candidate viewers?
In control panel, make sure that accesibility features are turned off - no stickykeys, etc.
You're not using the Synergy program and running SL on the secondary machine, I assume?
Try turning the computer off and back on.

Acytually, I have had this happen before, and had lindens log into my account to try and find the problem. the "Camera rotating around itself" bug.
Locate your preferences file on your computer, and delete it.

A simple reinstall of SL doesn't usually replace the preferences file Winter mentioned.
I think that an uninstall may not replace the preferences file - I don't recall for sure at the moment.
The file in question is called settings.xml or a variant thereof.
On a normal default installation of SL, C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\SecondLife\user_settings is the folder.
There may be settings.xml, settings_releasecandidate.xml, etc.
You can delete that entire folder if you want. It will mean you lose all your custom settings and have to see the n00b warning dialogs again.

A work around is to build a little platform above your head about 10 meters or so and build on that.

You didn't answer the question, unless you completely deleted an entire hard drive.
What folder is the file settings. xml stored in?
If you know how to manually delete the folder that file is in then you should be able to give the name of the folder.
If you aren't able to produce the name of the folder where settings.xml is stored, then you probably didn't really delete it.

Suzanne has a point.. on a Windows machine, there's actually *2* places where Second Life stores files, and one of them is inside a HIDDEN folder. The settings files are in fact stored in the hidden one. (and as she pointed out before, a "remove software" and reinstall won't zap those files)

Interesting, if it is in fact an example of the issue that bug report is about.
I don't remember having seen it in action.
Is there something to do to produce this effect reliably?

To SuezanneC Baskerville: yep the settingns.xml is here C:\Documents and Settings\Kerberos\Datos de programa\SecondLife\ I delete all this folder and the folder when my SL whas installed here: D:\Archivos de programa\SecondLife to And included inside the registry of WXP So I think is not other file of the Sl, If is another please tell me because I dont know where find it. Also I get a linden response to my ticket... This is a known bug which has been intermittently affecting residents for some time (I have encountered it myself a time or three, and know exactly what you are talking about). There is no workaround, however as I mentioned it does appear to be intermittent. [\CODE]
So my sll wife has the same problem since she is in sl (about almost 2 years) but she think the camera system allways be like this and never think was diferent.
So I need to deal with this for ever .....
PS: Also I was a builder and a little scripter but now I think need to make only scripts and not build anymore........Im very very sad :(

Sorry if my response was phrased annoyingly. When trying to help troubleshoot a problem more info is much better than less.
Might this be fixable with a different video card?

I have this issue every time I try to update my video Driver. ATI 7.10 drivers work fine, anything newer, and I get that bug. So for now it seems I'm stuck with old video drivers. If you have an ATI, try going back to 7.10 see if that helps.
