If I have a place that I want people to be able to find events for, what is the best way to do this? I would think that doing
<Name of place>: Event name
would be the best method of letting regulars know of when we have events, but this doesn't always seem to show up in search even when doing it 24 hours in advance. Am I doing something wrong? Any tips would be most appreciated!

I don't know if this is what you are looking for, but I used to get IMs about games, the person running the games had a scripted reminder system. It would remind you a number of times, increasing in frequency as the event drew nearer. This was really useful to me because I have to be reminded a lot - a whole lot - about SL events or I will forget them. You know, remember them after they are over.

That would personally drive me insane. I only have experience with live music events, but I find group notices the most effective way to be reminded of upcoming events. I use search to scan for what I might want to check out over the next few hours. Group notices act to remind me, or to point out gigs that didn't come up in search. @ Casper: maybe you could start a group for your regulars and send out notices. One a bit further in advance and one as a reminder a big closer to the event. Also I seem to remember that events must be posted well before 24 hours in advance to come up in search reliably. Good luck

The events callendar these days is little more than the classified ad's for people who dont want to pay for them and dont care about the rules for posting events, particularly:
"Posting events that are simply advertisements will not be acceptable. "
and
"An event is defined as a special group activity that is led by a host"
and often
"An event is framed by a beginning and an end time. Thus '24hr Sales' are not events. "
Have a look now and see how many you can find that actually comply with these.
I do feel sorry for the people who run legitimate events, LL once cracked down on fake events but got bored after about a week.

I'd imagine it's just not possible to police with the numbers of residents in-world now. There is a place for a resident-run list events guide, perhaps financed by ads. /me waves at Craig.

PS stuck in Utah huh? me too, sucks to be us

Hi Hiro Sorry but that fake event thing really annoys me, the search function can be used at 30L$ per week, and the classified for as little as 50L$, the event callendar is for hosted events People know full well that placing shop ads in there is against the rules, but as with most things, a few started doing it and found they could get away with it, and then for others its "well the others do it so I must or Ill lose out to them". Well no you could keep your integrity and obey those terms you press "I Agree"to EVERYTIME you place one. Jenny and I used to run events at a club we worked when first came here and its very hard work, they were actual events where we had to host and keep people interested for an hour, and there are people out there taking the trouble to host real events and are getting their events buried under a load of "10L$ super sale all day" and "Yard sale all 100L$" hostless fake events.

I agree Craig; I ran events when I first came to SL, so appreciate the work that can go into them. There are those who will not realise they're doing wrong despite clicking the 'I agree' button, there will be those who think it's ok because others are doing it, and there are those who couldn't give a flying f**k what ever the circumstances! Unfortunately, policing is impractical - not just the actual policing in the first place, but the follow up you will end up having to deal with: "why did you cancel my event listing but not this one", etc, etc. I think you just have to accept that will always be the case in the absence of policing, and to not get stressed about it. I wouldn't be surprised if the events list becomes a thing of the past at some point. Anyone remember when we used to get hourly notices of events; that seems so long ago now!

The NEW SEARCH should address some of the bad post concerns most have. I ditto Void's answer- offering people a opportunity to join your venue group is the best way to let folks know about your events.

Thank you for the replies! yeah, we have a group for our events but was hoping that we could make it easier for those who don't want to join the group to find our events.

Hello!
The only thing I could suggest is put something about it in your "about me" section on the profile. List the group name and mention that joining the group will allow them to be notified of an upcoming event.
Put your place as a pick in your profile.
Thats the only way that I could think of you doing it with out spamming - which would get you in big trouble.
Good Luck!
