I just got a message inworld about a 30min asset server fixing issue and it stated if I was on the AS being worked on I will be limited in what I can do if I am inworld..
Ok so my question is this.. How do I know which AS I am on?

How do I know which AS I am on? ya i am pretty sure we all got it. and. probably theres no way for the typical resident to know. although if you notice your inworld experience being mucky right now you can probably guess you're on the one thats being worked on or you can guess you're experiencing SLs normal dysfunctions as usual

I am pretty sure I am on one of the affected servers. I was unable to do anything in my inventory other than look at it. If I tried to move anything to a different folder, or trash it, the next time I looked it would be exactly where it was before. Not normal SL-asset-server issues.

If you need to ask, just assume you are on the most recently borked one, that way if you're wrong you'll be happy and not disappointed.

In my life I have learned never to assume anything. and I didn't have a problem.. yet.. /me crosses fingers knocks on wood I was mainly looking for an answer about what asset servers exactly are.. Im not sure if they are a program or a computer hard drive.. So when they keep tellin gme their AS are "borked" I know what the heck they are talking about (aside from my inventory and transactions)

So when they keep tellin gme their AS are "borked" I know what the heck they are talking about (aside from my inventory and transactions) This was about the inventory servers, not the asset servers . The inventory servers contain a list of everyone's inventory, and each of us is assigned to one specifically (unless LL moves your inventory over) so my inventory might be on #5, yours might be on #10 and someone else's on #7. Just think of assets as files (not exact, but most people do understand the concept of a file ). The asset server contains all assets that are present in inventory anywhere (inside of a prim, or inside an avie's inventory). Your inventory will just be a long list of references into the asset servers. For instance: we might both have bought the same skin. That skin will be in my inventory, it will be in yours, and it will be in the creator's, but all three inventory references one unique asset. Or maybe simpler: the inventory servers contain a list of who owns what, and acts as an index to where that item is actually being stored. There's more to it than that and it's not quite exact but hopefully that will make some sense .
