Hi everyone, just a question for anyone who knows.

When a resident is banned, either to the 'cornfield' or permanently, do you know if there profiles are unsearchable in SL, or if they are removed from groups ?

Thanks in advance.

As far as I know, if a resident is banned from SL permanently they no longer appear in search / groups or anywhere else.
What happens with a temporary ban, i don't kow.

I'll also add that their names are no longer available on the registration page. If you want an av with a certain name (assuming the last name is still available), and the registration page won't let you have it, and they don't appear in search, the likely cause is that they were banned. slnamewatch.com has a healthy list of avatars (stored internally) who suddenly stopped appearing in the people search tool. They are deducted from the usage counts. I can't really think of a good use for that data, except maybe to compile some rough stats about ban rates over time. mildly interesting.

Hmm, there's nothing really helpful there, but thanks for pasting.

What if someone deletes their account ? Are they auto removed from all groups and search ?

There are certain things that let you see the profile of a banned or canceled avatar.

- object owned or created by the person (click profile in the edit window)

- person in friends list (I've seen this personally... it was 3 months before I realized my very first friend had got himself banned for going apesh*t in his RP group!)

- land still held in av's name (this is weird, admittedly... but my neighbor's disappeared from search and yet still is listed as the land owner)

The banned/canceled avs' profiles will still list their groups, but when you look at the group info, they won't be listed there.

They disappear from Search so there's no way for you to find and look at their profile, unless you have their card, or some prims they created.

As far as I know even you are suspended or your account is temporarily closed awaiting payment or whatever... you are removed the search

That's funny, that's exactly what I was talking about!

I have a neighbor who left their land with build on and autoreturn off, so of course some people have dumped stuff there (fortunately I was able to prim-fill it before the problem got out of hand).

Last month I quickly group-stalked her to see when she'd last been online, and she hadn't logged on since mid-June (so two months at that point). When I tried again this week, the groups listed in her profile were not showing her in their list of members. I then tried searching for her in Search, and she no longer exists.

My guess is that she just stopped paying tier/membership and that her account is suspended now. I always thought the land would revert to the Linden's rather quickly, but that is not the case here. Now I have to keep watching it to see when it does revert so I can get it (a) cleaned off and (b) put on the auction block.

I have a calling card of a friend who left the game without saying goodbye. He disappeared from my friends list and from the people search, but I can pull up his profile with the calling card. The profile is frozen in time. It says he belongs to a bunch of groups he was in when he left, some of the same ones' i'm in now. However, he's not listed in them when i go to the group info. I can send him an IM, which i assume goes into the memory hole. But maybe, just maybe he gets it forwarded to his email. I miss him a great deal, since he was an early friend in SL, so I send him an IM every few months to say I hope he is well, even though i know he doesn't receive it.
