I lowered my backyard on the beach so i could also have water back there, but i don't like the looks of the water--it's just still and you can see all the uneven texture of the bottom. So i searched for water and came up with all kinds of things--I'm confused. Shoukld i be looking at textures or what? And is it possible to get a ripple effect or movement to water without it being waves? Thanx for any help or advice.

How the water in SL looks is mostly dependent on the quality of your graphics card. So, if you're seeing a big slab of non moving water. I'm afraid that's probably because your graphics card can't handle the rendering of the water ripples as it was meant to look.

Your choices are, to either use a better graphics card (one which can handle pixel shader effects), or to find an alternative in overlaying the water with prims with a specific water texture on them.

And double check Edit --> Preferences -- > Graphics Detail

to make sure that 'Enable Ripple Water' is checked.

If it isn't and it doesn't add to your lag as you move around SL, you can leave it checked.

...and use smooth and flatten to make the bottom of your pool/pond/bay look better.

a water texture question

I also have a question about water. I created a pond and waterfalls, and I know how (in my head) to apply texture and an animation to make it move. OKay so far.

BUT, the texture doesn't want to stay as I say. It jumps to huge for no reason. Then when I click on it, it reverts to small, then goes large, on and off, sometimes staying large - NO reason for all this.

No matter how often I alter the texture size settings, nothing changes.

I tried removing the animation script, but it still keeps running, and I still can't alter the texture. I set up the texture to look exactly right, then applied the animation script, whereupon the texture jumped to HUGE.

WHAT is going on? I'm at the point of deleting the whole thing now.

Unfortunately, llSetTextureAnim sets the textue to 1x1 scaling. I have a "stop it" script for removing various prim properties, I'll drop it on you in-world.

I had the same problem as Bonny and it drove me NUTS. I would greatly appreciate it if you could drop that script on me too. :)

I have no clue how water rippling works so decided to search it - that is how I found this thread - before, however - I found this one:

/327/de/207387/1.html

that proly answers your question, too.

Updated to add, that i see this was rather old - but since I had a question re water also, maybe it is a relatively common question..
