SL Crashing? Help please.

I've played SL for about two years now. I have a new-ish computer that is in good health, fast connection, blah blah blah.
I used to play SL everyday without a problem, then went on Hiatus. I came back about a week ago and every time I log in, five seconds later my computer just completely crashes; the monitor goes black with little verticle gray lines.
And then I re-boot and it happens again.

Can anyone help?
Thanks.

Hi I'm not savy enough to know what your problem is, but someone should be along soon to help. In the mean time it might help them help you if you post what version of the viewer you are using and what graphics card you have. Also your OS and specs on your computer.

Totally black monitor with vertical (or horizontal) lines is a graphics card/adapter problem. It's likely your card is dying. It could be heat but the 5 seconds before the crash does not really give enough time for the failure. Just in case you might take the side off your computer and blow all the dust out (especially around the graphics card, fans and ventilation holes). I driver could possibly be the issue too (but again the discription does not really point in that direction). Go your manufacturers wedsite, download the lastest driver for you card, uninstall your present driver and install the new one.

I hope one of the suggestions work for you instead of having to replace your card. But, be aware that your problem appears to be a dying card over anything else.

I agree, this sounds like an issue with the graphics card or its drivers.

Computer specs would be nice to know, however.

How long a hiatus? And was your computer on and connected to the internet at any time during the hiatus?

If not...it could be a load-induced hardware failure. Maybe age, or a power surge got in and semi-fried something. It could be dust, or a failed fan. It could also be trying to use an outdated viewer, or outdated driver software.

If so...it could be that your computer auto-downloaded updates for windows, or other software, that conflict with something, or that installed incorrectly. And the hardware failure is still a possibility.
