Restarted...cleared cache..all the normal jazz...my sim is running like a sloth!
I've noticed that if im on late..it happens..late..as in 2 am and after my time..im in midwest, central time US.

possibilities:
scheduled updates that run in the background:
-virus scanners
-window update
-web synchs
-various other programs (though nightly is a bit weird)

shared lines:
-isp bandwidth is flooded at certain times (multiple users during peak hours)
-P2P software
-intermediate servers getting flooded

isp throttling:
-seems to happen alot when they're doing line tests

backdoor servers:
-only coming on at unlikely hours to try to avoid detection

equipment oeverheating
-computer, router, modem

SL going to pot
-well it's not like it never happens but it'd be low on the list based on time.

that's all I can think of of off the top of my head

I'm not sure if this is related, but a little while ago, I stopped hearing music on SL. That's never happened to me before. Half the people on my sim couldn't hear anything. I switched from my DJ stream to radio and nothing. Tried four more stations and nothing. Another DJ popped his in and I got nothing, but half the people did.

All in all, I'm guessing SL is having a seizure.

I have found that anyone using AVG firewall will experience a lot of trouble on SL and the net . I used it once and it was a nightmare. And many times I have had to troubleshoot guests viewer problems . And low and behold they were all using AVG . I instruct them to dump AVG and find a better one.. After they do, all their networking problems went away..

AVG is not a firewall, it is an antivirus program. I use the freebie version without problems on my puny laptop. I do, however, disable the "link scanner" portion of it. I also configured it to ignore the SL caches; I seem to recall this was harder to find with AVG than with some other antivirals.

There is "AVG Plus Firewall", though.

I run AVG Internet Security which includes the firewall and it's never caused problems with SL.
