Hello, I own 3 parcels of land, with protected Linden roads between them. Does anyone know if I can make a bridge over the protected land without objects being returned to me? I have a store (Mikey's Plant World) on one of the parcels, and I want to expand to the other 2 parcels. I know I can use a teleporter, I already have one, but a bridge would allow people to walk from one section to the other. I have seen a couple of bridges over roads which are non-Linden built, so that got me wondering. Anyone know about this? Thanks, Mikey Fairlane

make it 2 part and each part center right on your border
if the distance is to great, you can allways make the bridge and when complete, add a 20x20 alpha megaprim at the end for extra distance for the links center

If the Linden road is an actual road (i.e. on land rather than water) then why do you need a bridge over it? Folk can just walk over from one plot to another. On the other hand, if it's actually a waterway (i.e. a linden "road" through a water plot) one thing to bear in mind is that if you put a bridge over it, it may well block access along the waterway for boaters, which is a bit impolite. A way around this might be to make the bridge liftable like the bridges across the canals in Bay City, with a clearly marked sign that boaters can touch to raise the bridge so that they can pass through.
The other thing to bear in mind is that regardless of how useful or pretty a build you put over protected land, it's still *protected*, i.e. not yours. That being so, if anyone sees your build encroaching on Linden land and reports it to the Lindens, it will likely get returned to you without warning or negotiation (which is not unreasonable, since it's *their* land after all).

Yep.. I dunno if they'll do it but if a bridge over the road makes sense in that spot, you might try asking Jack, Blue or Michael Linden if they'd consider a mini-LDPW/Mole project there. Put up your bridge, take some pictures of it, try to sell them the idea at one of their office hours. Something on protected land owned by a Mole won't get returned.. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Office_Hours

I've actually made it sort of a habit to walk Linden protected land since first coming to SL. Their used to be several bridges across the Linden land on my contintent........but there are now roads on those protected trails. And all those bridges are gone now.
It's not your land......build at your own risk.

I've built bridges over Linden Roads before - footbridges, mostly. As long as the root prim of your build is on your land, it won't be auto-returned (although, as pointed out, it may be returned by AR).
Linden's official stand on bridges like this are that as long as they don't block traffic down the road - high enough for vehicles to drive under, for example - they don't mind them. However, given the various natures of the G-Team, doesn't mean that it won't get returned to you. I've never had one returned, but I don't have one in place right now because I traded the land I owned on the other side of the road for land on the same side.
Your mileage may vary, of course.

I reiterate what the others have said. Put the root prim on your land and build it so it doesn't impede traffic and you're very likely good to go. As far as official Linden policy, unfortunately it seems to have changed a bit. It used to read as I've quoted in this post: /327/85/248650/1.html#post1919202 It's been changed a bit to address overhanging prims: From: Knowledge Base What's the deal with Protected Land? Protected Land is Linden owned, for use by all Residents. It may or may not contain roads, but it does provide a right of way through any given Region. It is usually lightly developed, which aids overall Region performance by not using prim or script resources. Protected Land can not be altered or sold to Residents. Can I build on Protected Land? We cannot grant specific permission for building on Protected Land, which includes builds that "overhang" onto Protected Land. If you decide to attempt to build on Protected Land, or in the skies over it, do so at your own risk. If another Resident reports your build, or it hampers the use of Second Life, it may be returned without notice. What about the sky above Protected Land? Can I build there? The sky above Protected Land is still Protected Land; if you build something there, your creation may not last very long. Trees or objects on Protected Land is encroaching on my parcel. What can I do? Please submit the issue in detail in a support ticket. Please include the specific location, Region name and X,Y location, so that we can investigate your claim. How is Empty land different? "Empty" land is usually a full region that still needs to be set up as Protected Land. If you are concerned about the status of a plot named, "Empty", please submit detailed information in a support ticket for investigation.
Note that it's not strictly forbidden, but, be prepared for change. --Hugsy
