It's just me or on these last days I found that avery SIM in the world got more and more lag? Yesterday we were like 71k online but it seams that the lag is also increasing, at least for me

I'm only online during nonpeak hours (basically overnight in the US) and I've noticed the same for a few weeks now. Everything seems to take longer to load than it used to no matter how empty the sims are.

One thing I've noticed recently, which may be nothing to do with it, is that all the textures that should be in my cache need to be downloaded again the first time I go to my store after logging in. I get grey everywhere until it all comes in. There should be no reason to download it all again.

Even on my home sim, where the vast majority of textures should already be in the cache, are being re-downloaded when I log-on, and I see gray until this finishes. This started quite recently, although I can't with hand-on heart say precisely when. I am using the standard viewer, rather than the RC and suspect it may have started around the time of the new viewer being released. _____________________

Yes, I've noticed the same thing. Prior to the last two weeks I lagged only in certain places--now it happens everywhere. I'm also using the latest viewer. It doesn't happen to me on the latest RC, but that has a lot of problems with physical objects.

There WAS a new server version distributed some time last week. It could be the new server that's causing all the grid-grumpiness. It's too much of a coincidence for me to think otherwise. (=_=)y

ditto here for me as well. its been like 2 weeks now of just tooth pulling lag. And for me that mean fps of 1.8-2.1 versus the old 2.9-3.6 I used to get. 1ve gone around my properties an removed every rotating item i could except my fish schools.
Its close to making SL unplayable for me. As it is, that along with the economy determined my choice to turn down a sim buy offer this week. I really dont wont to play if it remains like this. I tried reloading my 1-19 but its crashy as heck too now where before it was ok and i could get a 6.0-8 fps once in a while, I was HAPPY with what ever the viewer was just after the (1-19-4). 1.20 something. it ran perfect, stayed online 10-15 hrs a time. and didnt lag a lot for me. No spazzing out like it does now. |

Even on my home sim, where the vast majority of textures should already be in the cache, are being re-downloaded when I log-on, and I see gray until this finishes.. In theory, a lot of people being logged in shouldn't cause individual sims to lag. Unless they're hitting the back-end servers up for tons of stuff, a sim is, sorta, kinda, a stand-alone thing. That said, it has seemed like stuff stays grayer longer over the last few months. Simon Linden talks about this a little in the transcript from Andrews office hour last week. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Andrew_Linden/Office_Hours/2008_09_25 starting at about 17:17 until about 17:30. There's a few different conversations going on at once but it's not too long. /me doesn't know how much what Simon is looking at impacts sims when concurrancy is high, though. I guess it could be that all those sims tossing textures too quickly is putting a lot of extra load on the asset servers. Or it could be totally unrelated. _____________________

I also notice that everything takes forever to load. If you fly in a straight line, it's easy to "overfly your draw distance," in that you're long past what you would have seen by the time it loads.
Scripted objects seem to load last. So when you tp to an apartment, the doors and rental boxes are invisible for a long time. When you tp to my rental hubs, the maps are there, but the landmarks and tp-markers are missing for ages and ages. I'm sure most people who land there probably can't tell what the hell I'm trying to represent unless they're really patient. This can't be good for business. Maybe store-owners are blaming the economy unnecessarily. Customers aren't going to buy something that isn't there, no matter how rich or poor they are. Nuno, I'm glad you pointed out that it's every sim. I was hoping the big city wasn't just uniquely laggy! --Avion |

Lately, Ive been seeing a about 14-16 fps where I use to get 25-30 pfs. There has been a change in the way textures are downloaded to my computer. I hope they can determine the issue and get this corrected. |

In theory, a lot of people being logged in shouldn't cause individual sims to lag Yes, sure. I think the thread-topic proper got a little derailed just before me..I just made it worse ![]() I haven't noticed a direct correlation between concurrency and the slow texture loading I was referring to. Sorry for the confusion. Simon Linden talks about this a little in the transcript from Andrews office hour last week. [url http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Andrew_Linden/Office_Hours/2008_09_25 starting at about 17:17 until about 17:30. Many thanks for this link. Very useful. Seems possible that this is what I was referring to & glad it has been noticed and has possible solutions. _____________________
