Skin Question

...possibly the wrong forum, if so, sorry.

I have a skin that a friend made, it's copy/mod/no transfer. I'd like to d/l it my hard drive, make some modifications and then UL it. Question is; How?

I understand the texture editing, etc. I've used some other progs for 3D avatars, so I got all that. I just don't know how to download the texture in the correct size and quality to work with it.

Your friend would need to give you the skin file to do it. Or you would have to use some rather unsavory software, that would get the file for you. Since it is a friend, just ask them to mod it for you.

...cool so just get the raw file from him?

Eloh is not releasing any more skins, just read her blog, wow that is sad indeed. I do hope that she gets what she is wanting to see linden lab do, if that happened that would be awesome

If you have the 3 skin textures, and the appropriate permissions are set, you can download the textures from Second Life. Open up the texture, go to "File", and choose "Save Texture As."

If it's a skin file, then I don't think there is a way to pull the individual textures out of the skin file.

But if you have the tools and know what you're doing, get the original .psd from your friend, that's a lot easier.

the only problem with that is its been tru the system once, so your getting a compressed jpg making mods and re compressing it, which could (will) result in quality loss

now if that loss is acceptable or not is entirely up to the user

It sounds to me as if you need your friend to email you her/his .psd file for the skin so you can work with the layers when you modify it.

Yeah, it's sad what people have done with her generosity (make only minor modifications, if that, then sell them as their own. I've only seen one give her credit.)

But her old skins are still available for free download, and is great for newbies who wish to learn how to make skins. I hope they do what I did, and visit Suffugium Fleamarket, where some of the in-game versions are available for free, or to pay her what it is worth to you.

actually looked at her blog today and it seems someone released a mod of her skins, so now she is going to be making more



she seems to have the same decision making capacity as I do
